AffiliateWP is one of the strongest choices for running an affiliate program on a self-hosted WordPress website—but it is not automatically the best option for everyone. It is best suited to established WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, membership, course, donation, and form-based businesses that want to own their affiliate data and manage commissions inside WordPress.
The main financial catch is recurring licensing: the promotional first-year prices currently displayed by AffiliateWP are lower than the listed renewal prices. AffiliateWP also does not recruit affiliates for you, and it cannot run a program for a non-WordPress website.
What is AffiliateWP?
AffiliateWP is a WordPress plugin for creating and managing an in-house affiliate program. It gives you tools for affiliate registration, approval, referral tracking, commission rules, reporting, fraud controls, affiliate dashboards, and payouts.
That makes it affiliate-program software—not an affiliate network. AffiliateWP does not provide a marketplace of publishers waiting to promote your products. You still have to recruit affiliates, approve them, provide promotional materials, enforce program rules, and manage disputes and payments.

At the time checked—August 18, 2026—the pricing page displayed these promotional annual prices:

Treat the figures above as prices displayed at the time of review, not permanent prices. Confirm the checkout total, renewal amount, tax, and licensing terms before buying.
AffiliateWP advertises a 14-day money-back guarantee but no separate free trial. Use that period to test your actual checkout, referral links, coupons, refunds, subscription renewals, and payout workflow.
The vendor also advertises zero platform fees and no transaction fees. That does not mean payouts are free: Stripe, PayPal, banks, currency conversion services, and other payment providers may charge their own fees. You remain responsible for tax records, affiliate disclosures, identity checks, sanctions screening, and applicable legal requirements.
Which AffiliateWP plan should you buy?
Personal
Personal is probably sufficient for one WordPress site that needs standard affiliate registration, referral tracking, reporting, commissions, and basic payout functionality. It is the logical starting point if you do not need advanced commission models or sophisticated fraud tools.
Plus
Plus makes sense when you need two site licenses, multi-currency commissions, or selected growth features such as commission-on-signup, affiliate welcome bonuses, leaderboards, or checkout assignment.
Pro

Growth Bundle
The Growth Bundle is relevant only if you also want RewardsWP for points-based loyalty, product or shipping rewards, or refer-a-friend incentives. If you need only affiliate tracking, the bundle may add cost without adding useful value.

You can allow affiliates to register, approve or reject applications, assign custom IDs, group affiliates, add internal notes, block or ban accounts, send customized emails, and provide creatives or promotional materials. Affiliates receive dashboard pages for links, referrals, earnings, and account information.
Referral and coupon tracking

Commission rules
AffiliateWP supports percentage and flat-rate commissions, product-specific rates, restricted commissionable products, pending referrals, and—depending on the plan—multi-currency, recurring, lifetime, tiered, and multi-tier commissions.
- Recurring commissions: commissions on later subscription payments.
- Lifetime commissions: future purchases associated with a customer remain attributed to an affiliate.
- Tiered rates: different commission rates for different affiliates or groups.
- Multi-tier commissions: an affiliate can earn from referrals generated by affiliates they recruited.
These models can be valuable for subscriptions and partner programs, but they also create more complicated bookkeeping. Decide whether commissions are payable after a refund period, what happens after a chargeback, and whether coupons override referral cookies.
Payouts
AffiliateWP advertises Stripe payouts, PayPal payouts, store-credit payouts, international payouts, payout logs, CSV export, and automatic payouts on Pro. A payout system still requires operational controls. Recording a referral, making it payable, sending the money, reversing it after a refund, and documenting the payment are separate steps.

WooCommerce is a core use case. AffiliateWP can support product-level commission rules, coupon-based attribution, pending referrals, refunds, multiple currencies on eligible plans, and store-credit payout scenarios.
WooCommerce compatibility alone does not guarantee reliable tracking. Check how your site handles:

SliceWP’s displayed sale pricing applies to the first year, with full-price annual renewals. Its comparison page claims a lower multi-year cost than AffiliateWP, but that is a SliceWP-authored marketing comparison rather than independent testing.
