Adobe Commerce has no public, fixed price. Adobe sells both Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service and Adobe Commerce on Cloud through customized quotes. Your real budget also includes implementation, integrations, developers, extensions, support, security, upgrades, and connected services. Magento Open Source has no license fee, but it is not free to operate.

Adobe Commerce pricing at a glance

Adobe’s current pricing page directs buyers to request a quote rather than publishing a rate card. The commercial model depends on your business profile, deployment, requirements, contract and any Adobe products bundled into the deal.

Product Model Hosting Public price? Main budget issue
Magento Open Source No core license fee Merchant-managed or third-party Software is free Infrastructure, engineering and maintenance
Adobe Commerce on Cloud Paid subscription/license Single-tenant PaaS No Quote scope plus custom-code operations
Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service Paid SaaS subscription Multi-tenant SaaS No Contract scope and customization limits
Adobe Commerce Optimizer Separate service Multi-tenant SaaS Quote-based May require an existing transaction engine

See Adobe’s official pricing and product descriptions for the current deployment distinctions.

Is Magento free?

Magento Open Source has no license fee. That only means you can use the core software without paying Adobe for a commercial subscription. You still pay for servers, databases, cache, search, CDN, backups, monitoring, security work, developers, extensions, integrations, testing and support.

Adobe Acrobat Pro | PDF Software | Convert, Edit, E-Sign, Protect | PC/Mac Online Code | Activation Required
  • Create and edit PDFs. Collaborate with ease. E-sign documents and collect signatures. Get everything done in one app, wherever you go.
  • Edit text and images without jumping to another app.
  • E-sign documents or request e-signatures on any device. Recipients don’t need to log in to e-sign.
  • Convert PDFs to editable Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents.
  • Share PDFs for collaboration. Commenting features make it easy for reviewers to comment, mark up, and annotate.

Adobe Commerce is the paid commercial platform formerly known as Magento Commerce or Magento Enterprise. It should not be confused with Open Source when comparing prices.

What determines an Adobe Commerce quote?

  • Annual gross merchandise value or revenue profile.
  • B2B versus B2C requirements.
  • Number of brands, websites, stores, currencies and regions.
  • Catalog size, product complexity, customers, orders and administrators.
  • Traffic, peak-event and availability requirements.
  • Cloud deployment model and environment requirements.
  • B2B capabilities such as company accounts, shared catalogs, quotes and approvals.
  • Support tier, service levels and contract term.
  • Usage allowances, API, data or storage limits.
  • Adobe products bundled with Commerce.

Market articles sometimes cite annual license estimates such as $22,000 to $190,000 or more. Those are agency or market observations, not an Adobe-published price list. Geography, discounts, bundling, GMV assumptions and renewal terms can make such figures incomparable.

What might be included—and what usually is not

Your quote may include an application subscription, platform infrastructure, Adobe technical support, security or feature updates, deployment tooling, service-level commitments and selected B2B entitlements. The exact inclusions must be confirmed in the contract.

Do not assume the platform fee includes:

  • Discovery, architecture, design or implementation.
  • Data migration, SEO redirects or catalog cleanup.
  • Custom frontend, headless development or merchant-specific code.
  • ERP, PIM, OMS, WMS, CRM, tax, shipping, payment or EDI integrations.
  • Extension licenses, configuration or vendor support.
  • Internal merchandising and technical staff.
  • Payment processing, fraud, tax or shipping-provider charges.
  • Every Adobe Experience Cloud product.

The complete Adobe Commerce cost model

1. Subscription or license

This is the negotiated Adobe charge. Ask which metric changes the price—GMV, revenue, orders, stores, API volume or another measure—and how renewals are calculated.

2. Implementation and migration

Implementation can include discovery, solution architecture, UX, theme or headless frontend work, catalog and B2B modeling, integrations, migration, performance engineering, security hardening, QA, training and launch support. External planning material places complex implementations around $100,000–$500,000-plus, but that is not an Adobe benchmark. A simple existing-store migration and a global ERP-connected B2B rollout are fundamentally different projects.

3. Hosting and infrastructure

Open Source merchants must budget for application and database servers, Redis, OpenSearch, object storage, CDN, WAF, load balancing, backups, staging, monitoring, logs and disaster recovery. Adobe Commerce on Cloud reduces some infrastructure work, but it does not make merchant-specific code and integrations Adobe’s responsibility.

Adobe’s shared-responsibility guidance separates Adobe, merchant, cloud-provider and CDN duties. “Cloud” does not mean that your team can stop managing configuration, extensions, integrations, testing or compliance controls.

4. Development and maintenance

Plan for bug fixes, extension updates, PHP and database upgrades, security patches, checkout changes, browser testing, API changes, analytics consent work and performance tuning. A managed platform may reduce infrastructure labor, but customizations still require engineering oversight.

5. Extensions and connected services

Search, merchandising, subscriptions, configurators, reviews, loyalty, tax, fraud, shipping, PunchOut, cXML, EDI, PIM, OMS and CRM connectors can all add one-time or recurring fees. An inexpensive extension can become costly if it conflicts with another module, blocks upgrades, creates checkout problems or is abandoned.

6. Payments, tax and staffing

Model gateway and processor percentages, fixed fees, chargebacks, fraud screening, alternative payment methods and currency conversion separately. Also budget for product ownership, architecture, backend and frontend development, QA, DevOps, data integration, merchandising and security. Outsourcing changes payroll into agency fees or a support retainer; it does not eliminate the work.

A practical three-year TCO worksheet

Use this formula rather than comparing license headlines:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Three-year TCO = subscription/license + implementation + migration + custom development + infrastructure not included + extensions + integrations + internal staff + agency support + security/upgrades + payment, tax, search, PIM, OMS and analytics services + contingency
Category Implementation Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 In Adobe quote?
Adobe platform fee
Implementation partner
Migration and frontend
ERP/PIM/OMS integrations
Extensions and SaaS tools
Staff and support
Security, upgrades and performance
Payment, tax and shipping services

A 15%–25% contingency can be a reasonable internal planning assumption when requirements, data quality or legacy code are uncertain; it is not a guaranteed industry standard.

Adobe Commerce versus Magento Open Source

Open Source offers control and no license fee, but you assemble and operate the stack. Adobe Commerce adds commercial capabilities, support and, depending on the deployment, managed infrastructure and update services. It may reduce the cost of recreating B2B or enterprise functions, but its subscription can be substantially higher. Compare the complete three-year operating model, not the license alone.

Adobe Commerce versus SaaS alternatives

Shopify Plus

Shopify’s enterprise comparison material lists approximately $2,300 per month on a three-year term, with actual pricing varying by contract and revenue. Hosting, PCI and compliance services are included on listed plans, but apps, custom functions, integrations and migration still cost money. Shopify is often attractive when rapid launch and lower infrastructure responsibility outweigh maximum code-level control. Source: Shopify’s comparison.

BigCommerce Enterprise

BigCommerce uses custom Enterprise pricing and presents hosted commerce as a lower-maintenance alternative. It can fit mid-market B2B or B2C merchants, but specialized workflows may still require custom applications and integration work. See its official comparison page.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce can suit WordPress-centric teams and simpler stores. Hosting, plugins, security, performance and maintenance are assembled separately, so a low core license cost does not guarantee low TCO.

commercetools

commercetools suits engineering-led organizations pursuing composable commerce. It can shift more cost into architecture, frontend, integration, observability and staffing rather than serving as a cheaper packaged replacement.

Costs buyers commonly miss

  • Integration depth: customer pricing, inventory ownership, warehouses, returns, credit limits, units of measure, purchase orders and EDI are rarely simple connectors.
  • Upgrade debt: custom code and outdated extensions can turn a routine update into a major project.
  • Performance testing: require load tests covering catalog size, peak concurrency, carts, checkout, APIs, caches and third-party dependencies.
  • Compliance: platform PCI coverage does not automatically make custom checkout code or third-party scripts compliant.
  • Quote exclusions: staging environments, after-hours support, B2B modules, add-ons, disaster recovery and post-launch work may be separate.

Adobe states that Adobe Commerce versions generally receive three years of standard support. Versions 2.4.6 and 2.4.7 receive an additional year at no extra cost; extended support for 2.4.4 ends in April 2026 and for 2.4.5 in August 2026. Adobe plans unsupported-version upgrade enforcement on Adobe Commerce on Cloud beginning June 1, 2027. Verify your installed version against the current lifecycle policy before budgeting.

Questions to ask Adobe and your implementation partner

  1. Which product and deployment model is quoted?
  2. What annual fee and usage metric apply?
  3. What are renewal increases, termination and migration terms?
  4. How many production, staging and development environments are included?
  5. What uptime, disaster-recovery and support response commitments apply?
  6. Are B2B features included or separately licensed?
  7. Are updates automatic, and what happens at end of support?
  8. Which merchant responsibilities remain for code, extensions, integrations and compliance?
  9. Are Analytics, AEM, Target, Optimizer or other Adobe products included?
  10. Are implementation, migration, payment, tax, search, CDN and WAF costs separate?
  11. What APIs, data exports and source-code rights apply?
  12. Can the partner provide a system-of-record diagram, field-level integration map, extension inventory, QA plan and performance-test assumptions?

Who should choose Adobe Commerce?

Adobe Commerce is financially defensible when complex B2B workflows, customer-specific pricing, multiple brands or regions, deep integrations, substantial customization or an existing Adobe ecosystem justify a multi-year technical investment. It is a poor fit for a straightforward DTC store, a buyer demanding a predictable public monthly price, or an organization without a technical owner and upgrade budget.

Choose Magento Open Source when you want control and can fund the engineering needed to operate it. Choose a SaaS platform when speed, predictable operations and lower infrastructure responsibility matter more than unrestricted customization. In every case, compare the cost of replacing required commerce capabilities elsewhere—not just the platform subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Adobe Commerce have a free trial or public monthly plan?

Adobe’s current public pricing position is customized, quote-based pricing rather than a standard self-serve monthly plan. Ask Adobe about demonstrations, pilots and evaluation terms for your deployment.

Does Adobe Commerce charge transaction fees?

There is no universal Adobe Commerce transaction fee stated in the supplied public pricing material. Payment gateway, processor, fraud and alternative-payment charges are governed primarily by your payment-provider contracts.

Is Adobe Commerce on Cloud fully managed?

No. Adobe manages responsibilities defined for its platform and infrastructure, while the merchant remains responsible for merchant-specific code, extensions, configurations, integrations and many operational and compliance controls.
