The phone reportedly had 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage— the same configuration cited for a standard U.S. Galaxy Z Flip 7 at $1,019. That made the Olympic Edition about $661, or 65%, more expensive.
The listing was real when reported, but the original eBay page now returns a 404 error. More importantly, available reporting does not prove that the seller was the Olympian who received the phone.

The eBay listing reportedly misidentified the phone in its title as a Galaxy Z Fold 3. Photos and the model information indicated that it was actually a Z Flip 7 Olympic Edition. That error does not prove the phone was counterfeit, but it is a reason buyers should verify the exact model before paying a collector premium.
Why was this version unusual?
According to the available reports, Samsung distributed the Olympic Edition to athletes competing in the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It was not reported as a normal retail phone available to the general public.
That limited distribution is the main source of its potential value. The reporting does not establish a meaningful hardware upgrade over an ordinary Galaxy Z Flip 7. In practical terms, a buyer was primarily paying for scarcity, Olympic association and possible athlete provenance—not confirmed improvements in performance.

That remains unverified. The reports support that Samsung distributed phones to Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and that a device matching the Olympic Edition appeared on eBay. They do not publicly establish the seller’s identity or prove that the seller personally received the phone from Samsung.
The device could have been sold by an athlete, transferred to another person, or obtained through another route. The $1,680 figure was an asking price; there is no evidence in the available coverage that the phone actually sold for that amount.
Why might someone sell a free phone?
Several explanations are plausible: the recipient may prefer another operating system, already own a phone they like, or value cash more than a limited-edition device. Is $1,680 a good deal?
For a normal phone buyer
Probably not, based on the reported comparison. The buyer would pay about 65% more for a device whose superior hardware was not established. A standard Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the more rational choice for someone who wants the foldable phone experience rather than Olympic memorabilia. Current pricing, promotions and trade-in offers should be checked directly with Samsung.

The premium could be defensible, but only if the item is authenticated and complete. A collector should look for:

The listing was reported on February 19–20, 2026. The original URL, eBay item 327004667358, now returns a 404 error. It should not be treated as an active shopping link, and the reported $1,680 should not be described as a current asking price.
Anyone monitoring the resale market should use an active eBay phone search and apply normal used-device precautions. Verify the model number, storage, activation status, unlocked condition, warranty coverage and return terms before making payment. Do not share an IMEI publicly; use it only through appropriate private verification channels.
The financial takeaway
This was less a story about a technically superior smartphone than about the resale value of scarce promotional hardware. For most buyers, the standard Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers the relevant technology at a lower price.
