Important: This is an archival guide to U.S. Chromebook prices seen during the relevant week in June 2025. Those prices, discounts, inventory levels, and seller conditions may no longer apply.
The strongest historical choices were the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 at $299 for display quality and flexibility, the Acer Chromebook 311 at $129 for basic schoolwork, and the Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE at $449 for large-screen productivity and cloud gaming. The best choice depends more on memory, storage, display, processor, and remaining ChromeOS support than on the largest advertised percentage discount.

Prices and specifications were reported in the historical Laptop Mag deal coverage. The source page’s headline said nine deals but listed 10 products; this guide uses the nine stronger candidates and excludes the HP Chromebook 15 Plus, whose smaller stated reduction offered weaker value.

The nine historical picks
1. Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook — best overall value at $299
The Duet 5 was the most compelling value choice if you wanted a high-quality screen and tablet flexibility. Its 13.3-inch 1080p OLED touchscreen, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage made it substantially more attractive than basic 4GB/64GB Chromebooks.
Buy if: you value reading, streaming, portability, and tablet mode. Skip if: you need a strong traditional laptop keyboard, many ports, or heavy local Linux and Android workloads. Its older Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 platform is adequate for everyday cloud-first use but is not a high-performance laptop processor.
2. Acer Chromebook Plus 516 GE — best large-screen productivity deal at $449
This was the clearest performance-oriented deal: an Intel Core 5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD, and a 16-inch 2560×1600 display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It suited multitasking, video calls, spreadsheets, and cloud gaming better than the entry-level models.
The “GE” gaming positioning does not mean it runs demanding PC games locally like a Windows gaming laptop. Modern AAA gaming still depends on services such as cloud gaming and a reliable, low-latency connection.
Buy if: you want a large, sharp, high-refresh screen and stronger Chromebook hardware. Skip if: portability matters more than screen size.
3. ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 — best convertible value at $349
The Flip CX5 combined a 16-inch display with an Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of SSD storage. That made it a stronger general-purpose machine than a low-end convertible, especially for browser multitasking and video calls.
Rank #2
- Storage: 16GB Flash Memory
- OS: Chrome OS
- Screen Size: 11.6"
Buy if: you want a large touchscreen and flexible hinge at a substantial historical discount. Skip if: you want a compact travel computer or the exact listing does not confirm the expected Core i3, memory, storage, and display configuration.
4. Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 — best premium convertible at $579
The Spin 714 offered a more premium 2-in-1 experience, with a stronger processor class, touchscreen, and convertible design. Acer’s manufacturer specifications should be used to confirm the exact CPU, memory, storage, ports, and screen for any listing.
Buy if: you want a higher-end ChromeOS convertible for work, presentations, and long-term everyday use. Skip if: the configuration has less RAM or storage than expected, or if a conventional clamshell offers the same performance for less.
5. Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus — best display at $699
Samsung’s model stood out for its 15.6-inch 1080p AMOLED display, rated at 400 nits, thin design, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It was the display-focused pick rather than a straightforward discount: the historical listing did not clearly state a former price.
Samsung also advertised trade-in savings of up to $52. That was conditional, not an unconditional $52 price reduction; the final amount depended on the eligible device and checkout terms.

- Intel Processor Up to 2.80GHz, 4GB DDR4, 128GB Storage
- 15" FHD IPS Display, Intel UHD Graphics
- 1x USB Type C, 1 x USB Type A, 1x Headphone/Microphone Combo Jack, HDMI
- Fast WiFi and Bluetooth, Integrated Webcam
- Chrome OS, AC Charger Included, Pastel Silver
6. HP Chromebook Plus x360 14 — balanced convertible at $489
This model paired a convertible design with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a backlit keyboard. It was a more comfortable long-term productivity choice than a 4GB/64GB budget Chromebook.
The historical listing was associated with a third-party Amazon seller, Beach Camera, rather than clearly being a direct HP or Amazon offer. That matters because seller warranty, fulfillment, condition, and return terms may differ.
Buy if: the exact model number, new condition, seller, warranty, and return policy are confirmed. Skip if: the marketplace listing is open-box, refurbished, or materially different from the advertised configuration.
7. Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 — premium battery-focused option at $649
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 was listed at $649, but the historical coverage did not establish a former price, so it should not automatically be called a discounted deal. Its MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 platform, OLED option, and manufacturer-rated battery life of up to 17 hours were its main attractions.
Lenovo qualifies battery figures as variable by device, usage, and conditions. The manufacturer datasheet is the appropriate reference for the exact configuration.
Buy if: battery-oriented design, a premium screen, and ChromeOS fit your workflow. Skip if: you need proof of a genuine markdown or native Windows and macOS applications.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Chromebook Plus means
Chromebook Plus is a higher-spec ChromeOS category, generally associated with stronger processors, at least 8GB-class memory in many configurations, more storage, and enhanced Google features. It is not merely a guarantee of identical performance: an entry-level Chromebook Plus and a Core 5 Chromebook Plus can feel very different.
AI features may depend on ChromeOS version, Google account status, region, and service availability. Chromebook Plus also does not provide Windows-only desktop software. A discounted standard Chromebook can still be the better financial choice for a child or light-use buyer.

- FOR HOME, WORK, & SCHOOL – With an Intel processor, 14-inch display, custom-tuned stereo speakers, and long battery life, this Chromebook laptop lets you knock out any assignment or binge-watch your favorite shows..Voltage:5.0 volts
- HD DISPLAY, PORTABLE DESIGN – See every bit of detail on this micro-edge, anti-glare, 14-inch HD (1366 x 768) display (1); easily take this thin and lightweight laptop PC from room to room, on trips, or in a backpack.

How much hardware do you need?
- 4GB RAM: Acceptable only for basic use and a genuinely low price.
- 8GB RAM: The preferred baseline for a Chromebook intended to last several years.
- 64GB eMMC: Usable for cloud-first work, but restrictive for local Android and Linux apps.
- 128GB: A comfortable starting point for most buyers.
- 256GB SSD or UFS: Better for local files and heavier use.
Processor labels also matter. Intel Celeron and N-series chips suit basic browsing; Core i3-class Chromebook Plus devices offer more multitasking headroom; Core i5/Core 5 models are better suited to external displays, video calls, Linux applications, and cloud gaming. ARM chips such as Snapdragon and MediaTek can be efficient and portable, but application compatibility and performance vary. Core count alone is not a reliable ranking.
Display and form-factor trade-offs
Check resolution, brightness, panel type, aspect ratio, refresh rate, touch support, and finish. OLED and AMOLED screens offer stronger contrast, while a 120Hz panel can make scrolling and supported games feel smoother. Glossy touchscreens are convenient but more reflective.
Convertibles such as the HP x360, ASUS Flip, and Acer Spin add tablet mode and flexible viewing positions. The Duet 5 is a detachable design. These formats help with reading, drawing, presentations, and children’s use, but they can add weight, hinge complexity, glare, or cost without improving the keyboard or processor.

Check support before buying
Do not assume that every Chromebook receives the same number of years of updates. Google’s Auto Update policy gives the model-specific Auto Update Expiration date. Search for the exact model and configuration—not just “Chromebook x360 14”—before paying.
A low price can be poor value if only a short support period remains. Also confirm the ChromeOS model number, since one product family may include different processors, screens, memory, and storage.
Other checks that protect the purchase
- Compare new, open-box, and refurbished prices separately.
- Identify whether the seller is the manufacturer, a major retailer, or a marketplace seller.
- Confirm shipping, tax, membership requirements, coupons, trade-in conditions, warranty, and returns.
- Do not compare an open-box price directly with a new retail price.
- For cloud gaming, confirm that your internet connection and chosen service support the experience.
- Skip ChromeOS if you require native Windows software, professional desktop Adobe applications, serious local PC gaming, or extensive offline functionality.
For context, even a well-reviewed Chromebook Plus model can involve trade-offs: Tom’s Guide praised the Acer Chromebook Plus 515’s keyboard, speakers, ports, and sturdy feel but criticized its dimmer, less colorful display and recorded roughly eight hours of battery life in testing. Specifications alone do not guarantee the best ownership experience; see the review evidence.
