Namecheap is the best budget pick for custom-domain email, DreamHost offers the clearest mailbox-storage advantage, and Hostinger is worth considering for a new website if its selected plan includes enough mailboxes. Bluehost, SiteGround, IONOS and GoDaddy can also fit particular needs, but their email allowances, add-on costs or renewal terms deserve close attention. This comparison covers web hosts that include or sell email for your domain—not just standalone email services. These figures are not directly equivalent: some are standalone email prices, some are hosting-plan inclusions, and some are secondary price signals. A complete two-year total also depends on website hosting, renewal rates, domain renewal, taxes, and any added mailboxes; those values are not established here and should be checked in the checkout rather than inferred from a teaser price.

What email hosting includes—and what it does not
Email hosting stores and sends mail for a domain you own, so you can use an address such as [email protected]. A typical service gives you a mailbox login, webmail, and settings for connecting email apps. IMAP synchronizes messages across devices; SMTP sends outgoing messages; POP3 is another retrieval method offered by some providers. DNS records—especially MX records—direct incoming mail to the service.

Addresses are not all separate inboxes. A mailbox has its own login and stored messages. An alias delivers another address into a mailbox; a forwarder redirects mail without necessarily storing it; a catch-all accepts mail to otherwise undefined addresses and can attract spam. A distribution list sends one address to multiple people. Before paying for several mailboxes, decide whether each person needs a private login and sent-mail history or simply another public-facing address.
“Email included” can mean a short trial, a limited number of accounts, or a mailbox whose storage competes with website files. Ask whether the allowance is per domain or per hosting account, what happens when a trial ends, and whether extra mailboxes cost more. Namecheap explicitly separates its cPanel email from its Private Email product; moving a domain to Private Email requires changing MX records, and the two services cannot operate simultaneously for that domain. Its documentation also identifies IMAP, SMTP and POP3 support for both offerings, while Private Email adds calendar synchronization and two-factor authentication. How much mailbox storage do you need?
- 1–5 GB: often sufficient for light correspondence if you archive or delete old messages and attachments.
- 10–15 GB: more breathing room for an active individual or small business.
- 25 GB or more: useful if you retain years of messages and attachments.
These are practical planning bands, not provider guarantees. Check whether the quota is per mailbox or shared across an account. Namecheap’s Private Email lists 5, 10 and 15 GB per mailbox across its three tiers, whereas its shared-host cPanel email is subject to a 10 GB account limit. DreamHost advertises 25 GB for each Professional Email mailbox. A shared account quota means one full mailbox can leave less capacity for other mail or the website.
Which provider fits each kind of buyer?
Namecheap: best budget email-focused option
Namecheap’s published Private Email tiers make the cost and mailbox count unusually easy to compare: Launch is $14.88 per year for one mailbox, Expand is $41.88 per year for three, and Scale is $71.88 per year for five. Those plans list 5, 10 and 15 GB per mailbox respectively, with a 30-day trial. The provider also lists tier-dependent prices for extra mailboxes and aliases. Confirm the checkout price and any promotional terms before committing; the plan figures are email costs, not the total cost of a website and domain.
It suits freelancers and very small teams that want basic custom-domain inboxes and already use—or are happy to use—Namecheap. It is less attractive if you need a suite of shared office tools, high-volume sending, or want to keep cPanel email and Private Email active for one domain. DreamHost: best for generous mailbox storage
DreamHost advertises 25 GB per Professional Email mailbox, ad-free webmail, IMAP synchronization, and spam, virus and phishing filtering. Its web-hosting plans include a three-month Professional Email trial, with mailbox counts varying by plan; its page also describes unlimited email hosting for DreamPress, VPS and dedicated plans. The trial should not be mistaken for a permanent free mailbox.
The email page displays a starting price of €1.67 per mailbox per month in its European pricing context, so US buyers should verify their own checkout currency and price. DreamHost says the product works with domains registered elsewhere and describes copying mail between accounts through an IMAP client. Hostinger combines hosting with website-building tools and promotes domain, SSL, migration and email features in its web-hosting offer. That can simplify launching a small website and its first business address in one account. However, the published plan information does not establish a stable mailbox allowance or renewal price across plans and regions, so do not assume the cheapest plan covers every user you need.
Before ordering, select the actual region and billing term, then check the included mailbox count, storage, trial or expiry terms, and renewal price. Bluehost: best for supported WordPress setup, with an email-cost caveat
Bluehost’s support documentation dated July 14, 2026 describes a tiered cPanel Email model tied to active mailbox usage on the hosting account, not an individual domain:

The sending figures are hourly limits per domain, not a recommended newsletter volume or deliverability guarantee. This newer tier structure means older claims that Bluehost includes unlimited email can mislead. Include the email tier in your budget separately from web hosting. SiteGround: best when managed hosting support comes first
SiteGround says email may be provided as a complimentary feature on eligible web-hosting, cloud-hosting, ecommerce and Coderick plans. Its acceptable-use policy makes clear that use is subject to service rules and storage limits. The precise mailbox and storage allowance must be checked against the selected plan; the available information does not establish a comparable per-mailbox value for every plan.
Consider SiteGround when managed website support matters more than the lowest mailbox cost. Check the renewal price and email terms before purchasing, and do not treat complimentary hosting email as equivalent to a dedicated business-email or collaboration suite. See SiteGround’s email policy.
IONOS: best basic bundle candidate
IONOS may appeal to small businesses seeking a domain, website and conventional mailbox from one vendor. A 2026 Namecheap comparison lists a 2 GB basic email option, a $1.70 monthly starting signal and a $3 monthly renewal signal, alongside spam filtering, a free-domain signal and 24/7 support. These are secondary comparison figures rather than verified current US checkout prices; confirm the exact plan, term and support channel directly.
Two GB is a modest quota if you retain attachments for years. Also distinguish IONOS’s basic mailbox from Microsoft 365 products sold through IONOS, which are a different product category. The comparison signal is at Namecheap’s cheap email provider guide.

GoDaddy sells professional email using domain-based addresses and offers products in a Microsoft 365-related email ecosystem. The product page may route visitors to a regional storefront; the available information does not establish a comparable US price, storage quota or renewal term. Existing GoDaddy customers may value managing domains and email in a familiar account, but should verify the precise mailbox product, storage, billing term, renewal cost and included collaboration features at the US checkout.

Choose by total cost, not the teaser monthly rate
For a fair comparison, add the costs over the period you expect to use the service. A low introductory hosting rate can become less compelling after renewal or once email is added. Conversely, a higher host price may include the website features you actually need. Compare the same number of mailboxes, the same billing duration and equivalent domain terms.
- Promotional and renewal hosting prices, and the required billing term.
- Email add-ons, extra mailboxes, and whether an email trial converts to paid service.
- Domain registration and renewal, plus any privacy or DNS charges.
- Storage quota, backup policy, migration costs and taxes.
- Website count, storage, SSL, WordPress tools, staging and support access.
Namecheap says displayed promotional discounts generally apply to the first year and do not cover additional mailboxes. Bluehost’s documented cPanel Email prices also sit apart from its hosting price. For the other providers, use the chosen region’s plan and cart rather than extrapolating a two-year total from incomplete figures.
Can you use web-host email for newsletters or website messages?
Use ordinary web-host mailboxes for normal one-to-one correspondence, not bulk newsletters. Shared hosting services can restrict sending rates and may respond to abuse or spam complaints; Bluehost documents the hourly limits above, while Namecheap says its restrictions vary by plan and factors such as recipients, storage and synchronization.
Separate three jobs: a person’s business inbox, transactional messages such as password resets or order confirmations, and promotional campaigns. A mailbox suitable for a person may still be a poor sender for website automation, and an hourly cap can affect legitimate forms or receipts as well as marketing.
- Newsletters and promotions: use a dedicated campaign service such as Brevo, Mailchimp or MailerLite.
- Application or transactional messages: consider Amazon SES, SendGrid, Postmark or Mailgun, depending on technical needs and volume.
- Website contact forms: configure authenticated SMTP or a transactional service rather than assuming the web server can send reliably by default.
These sending services are not replacements for a normal inbox. Proper authentication and sending practices matter: SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, server reputation, complaint rates, list quality, volume and alignment between domain and sending service all affect whether a message reaches the inbox. A spam filter on incoming mail does not guarantee placement of your outgoing mail, and a website uptime claim is not evidence of email deliverability.
When a separate email service is a better choice
Basic hosted mail is not automatically a productivity suite. If your team needs shared calendars, team chat, document editing, shared drives, retention controls, compliance administration, or advanced device management, compare a purpose-built service such as Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail or Fastmail. The right choice depends on collaboration and administration needs, not just the monthly mailbox price.
Separating email from web hosting also reduces the chance that moving or changing a website forces an email migration. Check that your domain’s DNS can be managed independently and that the email provider supports the records and apps your team uses.
Set up a new mailbox or move existing email
- Connect a domain you control. Register it or point its DNS to the chosen services. If the website and email use different providers, change only the relevant DNS records; avoid changing nameservers unnecessarily.
- Create the mailbox and decide what each address needs. Create separate users where people need their own login and sent mail. Use aliases or forwarders where a separate inbox is unnecessary.
- Prepare for migration if you have existing mail. Copy old messages to the new account over IMAP using an email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Mac Mail. DreamHost describes this copy-based approach. Keep the old mailbox active during the transition.
- Change mail DNS records. Lower the DNS TTL ahead of a planned change when practical, then publish the new provider’s MX records. Add its SPF and DKIM records and publish a correctly configured DMARC policy. Do not leave conflicting MX records or create multiple SPF records.
- Connect your devices and website. Use the provider’s published IMAP and authenticated SMTP settings for Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail or a phone; use POP3 only if that is the intended setup. Update contact forms, password-reset workflows and other integrations with the new SMTP credentials.
- Test both directions before closing the old service. Send from and to an external address, check spam folders, test forms and automated messages, and confirm all users can access old mail. DNS changes may take time to propagate.
- Retire old records and accounts only after delivery is confirmed. Remove obsolete MX records once the new service is receiving mail consistently. Namecheap notes that changing from its cPanel email to Private Email requires the appropriate MX change and prevents simultaneous use of both services for the same domain.
Common migration mistakes include forgetting DKIM, publishing duplicate SPF records, pointing the website’s A record at the wrong host, removing the old mailbox too early, or leaving a website form configured with old SMTP details.
Which one should you choose?
- One inexpensive custom-domain mailbox: start with Namecheap Private Email Launch, and compare its email cost with your separate website plan.
- Several small-business inboxes: compare Namecheap Expand or Scale against the current hosting-plan mailbox allowance at Hostinger or another host.
- More storage per mailbox: DreamHost’s stated 25 GB is the clearest fit in this shortlist.
- A new website and email in one account: assess Hostinger’s chosen plan, including actual mailbox allowance and renewal pricing.
- Beginner WordPress hosting and support: consider Bluehost, budgeting for its email tier if you need more than two mailboxes.
- Managed website support over lowest cost: SiteGround may suit you, after checking plan-specific email and renewals.
- A basic bundled address or an existing GoDaddy account: compare IONOS and GoDaddy at the regional checkout, verifying small-print storage and renewal details.
- Newsletters, high-volume sending or office collaboration: keep mailbox hosting separate from the campaign, transactional or productivity service designed for that job.
For most people seeking cheap custom-domain inboxes alongside a website, Namecheap is the most transparent starting point. Choose another provider when storage, website support, a bundled setup or collaboration features outweigh the lowest email cost.
