Most free “mobile mining” apps do not use your phone to mine Bitcoin in the usual proof-of-work sense. They may award project tokens for participation, share advertising rewards, or display cloud-assisted balances instead. That distinction matters: an in-app balance is not necessarily transferable, liquid, or worth cash.
This comparison looks at Pi Network, Brave Rewards, CryptoTab Browser, Bee Network, and a final category of unverified tap-to-earn or cloud-mining apps. Only the first three have enough product information here to describe their reward models; Bee is a watchlist example, not a recommendation, and the fifth entry is a set of apps to avoid until their claims can be verified.
What “mobile mining” actually means
In proof-of-work mining, computers perform computational work to compete for block rewards. A normal smartphone is not economically competitive with specialized Bitcoin mining hardware. An app that awards a token when you tap a button is not thereby mining Bitcoin on your device.

#1 Best Overall
- Effortlessly build your crypto portfolio via the all in one Ledger Wallet app: buy, sell, send, receive, swap, stake and more across popular blockchains. 15,000+ coins & tokens in a single dashboard. Keep a close eye on the market. Compare service providers. Track performance. Get timely alerts. Build your portfolio with confidence.

- Enjoy Bluetooth connectivity, iOS access, and hours of battery use with this mobile-first, secure backup signer. Freedom you can depend on.
- Genuine Check: confirm your signer is authentic during setup with the Ledger Wallet app.
- Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
- Proof-of-work mining: A device performs computational work to compete for blockchain rewards. Do not assume an app is doing this just because it uses the word “mining.”
- Participation-based token rewards: A project awards tokens for activity or network participation. Pi Network calls its process mobile mining, but says it uses a different approach from proof-of-work and does not use the phone’s hardware or network resources to mine. (Pi support; Pi white paper)
- Cloud-assisted mining: Hashing is represented as taking place elsewhere, while a mobile app displays or manages a balance. CryptoTab advertises a Cloud.Boost system; that is not proof that a phone itself is profitably mining Bitcoin. (CryptoTab’s Android page)
- Advertising rewards: A user receives tokens for eligible ads. Brave Rewards pays BAT for viewing Brave Ads; that is advertising revenue sharing, not mining. (Brave Rewards)
- Tap-to-earn points: Users check in or play, often with referrals. Points are not spendable cryptocurrency unless the project issues them on-chain and makes them transferable.
“Free” also needs qualification. A free download may still cost time, data, privacy, or identity exposure. A paid upgrade, withdrawal fee, or required deposit changes the economics. Never pay a fee to unlock a promised withdrawal.
How to compare these apps
For a beginner, the useful questions are not just how quickly an app displays a balance. Ask what creates the reward, whether it is transferable, what verification is required, whether there is a withdrawal threshold or fee, what platforms and locations are eligible, and whether an external wallet or payout account is involved. A token price shown online is not the same as cashable value: liquidity, restrictions, fees, and lockups can all matter.
| App or category | What the user does | What it is | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pi Network | Starts a session about every 24 hours and completes project steps | Participation-based token ecosystem marketed as mobile mining | KYC and Mainnet Checklist affect migration; displayed balance is not automatically spendable |
| Brave Rewards | Browses and views eligible ads | BAT advertising rewards | Mobile earning is platform-dependent; iOS does not support the same ad-earning and payout-account path |
| CryptoTab Browser | Uses the browser and its mining-style features | Cloud-assisted/mining-style Bitcoin product, according to the vendor | Vendor hashrate claims do not establish earnings or profitability |
| Bee Network | Reportedly checks in and may invite others | Watchlist example; not verified here as a cashable token reward | Current transferability, utility, withdrawal rules, and network status need authoritative documentation |
| Unverified clones | Repeated taps, referrals, or purported boosts | Unverified tap-to-earn or cloud-mining claims | Withdrawal barriers, forced deposits, privacy abuse, or project disappearance |
1. Pi Network: a mobile-mining-style participation app
Best for: Readers curious about a dedicated mobile token ecosystem who accept that rewards may remain speculative. Not for: Anyone seeking immediate dollars, guaranteed returns, anonymity, or an app that mines Bitcoin on a phone.
Pi describes its app as mobile mining, but says the app does not use the phone’s hardware or network resources for mining and does not need to remain open after a session starts. Users typically tap the mining/lightning control to begin a session and return roughly every 24 hours to restart it. Pi describes its consensus approach as different from proof-of-work. To try it, use the official Pi site and its linked app listings, register one account, and start a session in the app. Pi says an invitation from an existing member is required. If the app offers a Security Circle, review its purpose rather than adding people indiscriminately. The project also provides Pi Browser; create a wallet only through the official Pi interface.
Cash-out reality: A displayed mobile balance is not automatically in the Pi Wallet or transferable. Pi’s support material says KYC and completion of the Mainnet Checklist, including wallet setup and migration steps, affect whether eligible balances can migrate to Mainnet. Check current in-app eligibility and rules; do not infer a cash value from a displayed balance. Pi itself cautions that it is not free money and that success is not guaranteed. (Pi support)
Privacy and security: KYC means sharing identity information for the possibility of future utility. The wallet is noncustodial: Pi says losing its passphrase can mean permanent loss of wallet funds. Store the passphrase offline, and never give it to support staff, websites, referral agents, or anyone offering migration help. Referral bonuses may depend on other users’ verification, so they are not a reliable personal earning rate.
2. Brave Rewards: the clearest non-mining alternative
Best for: Android users who want an optional advertising-reward feature rather than a mining app. Not for: iPhone users expecting BAT from the same mobile ad-reward path, or anyone counting on a fixed income.

Brave Rewards compensates users in BAT for eligible Brave Ads. It does not mine a coin: the user chooses whether to enable the program and may receive rewards based on eligible ad activity and local availability. Brave says mobile earning is supported on Android, while iOS has limitations and does not currently support connecting a payout account or earning BAT through the same Brave Ads path. Confirm current platform and country eligibility in Brave’s Rewards information and FAQ.
On a supported device, install Brave from the official app store, open the browser, tap the BAT/Brave Rewards control in the address bar, and review eligibility before enabling Rewards. Connect an available payout account if required to receive BAT. The amount is variable; ad availability, location, platform, account eligibility, and activity affect rewards. Brave does not promise a fixed earning rate. Seeing an ad in Brave does not by itself mean you are earning BAT: ads may appear when Rewards is disabled. (Brave privacy information)
Cash-out and privacy: Receiving rewards requires a supported payout route, which can involve a third-party provider and its account requirements. Understand that provider’s verification and privacy terms before connecting it. Do not confuse BAT rewards with tips or creator-support activity, which serve a different purpose. Brave is a legitimate reward model, but its value depends on the actual payout path available to you.
3. CryptoTab Browser: a cloud-assisted claim, not phone-powered Bitcoin mining
Best for: Curious users willing to test a mining-style browser with no deposit. Not for: Anyone seeking independently verified profits or predictable passive income.

CryptoTab markets mobile Bitcoin earning through its browser and a Cloud.Boost system. Its Android product page distinguishes a free Lite version, which it says has a basic Cloud.Boost speed of 1,000 H/s, from a Pro version advertising up to 1,500 H/s and additional features. These are vendor-provided product figures, not independently verified earnings, and they do not demonstrate that a phone is competitively mining Bitcoin. (CryptoTab Android product page)
If you choose to try it, download only from CryptoTab’s official page or an authenticated app-store listing, start with the free option, and review the current withdrawal threshold, fees, timing, and account terms before accumulating a balance. Do not buy Pro or a boost because a displayed hashrate looks impressive. A hashrate alone does not show expected payout, profitability, or break-even time. Treat referral-network activity as a separate activity, not evidence that the underlying mining model pays well.
Cash-out reality: CryptoTab’s page makes withdrawal claims, but readers should verify current thresholds, fees, and practical payout conditions in the product terms before relying on them. No independently established income rate is available here. If the app requires payment to unlock a withdrawal, stop rather than sending more money.
4. Bee Network: a watchlist example, not a verified recommendation
Best for: Nobody looking for a currently verified cash-out option on the evidence available here. It is included to show why a popular daily check-in format should not automatically be called mining.

Third-party descriptions commonly characterize Bee Network and similar apps as daily participation and referral systems. That description is not enough to establish that a balance is a transferable cryptocurrency. Before spending time or sharing personal information, look for current official documentation that explains token issuance, network status, utility, KYC, external-wallet transfers, withdrawal rules, and supported markets. Without those details, do not translate points into dollars or treat referrals as income.
Verdict: Keep it on a watchlist only if you can verify those facts from authoritative project sources. Do not pay for boosts, provide a wallet recovery phrase, or install an APK supplied by a referral page.
5. Unverified tap-to-earn and cloud-mining clones: skip until proven otherwise
There is no responsible fifth “best app” to recommend without evidence that its token can be transferred, its withdrawal terms work, and its project is real and current. The category includes apps that promise free hash rate, require daily taps, lean heavily on referrals, or present points as future crypto without a documented route to a usable token. Treat such apps as unverified rather than as income opportunities.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchCloud mining is not automatically fraudulent, but a service that asks you to trust claims about remote computing deserves scrutiny. Look for transparent terms, a clear payout path, and independently verifiable activity. Do not equate an app-store listing, a large displayed balance, a referral leaderboard, or a projected dollar value with proof of profitable withdrawals.
How to judge whether “free” is really free
Before signing up, check each of these items:
- Upfront cost: Is the download free, and can you participate without a deposit, subscription, paid boost, or required referral?
- Withdrawal cost: Is there a minimum balance, network fee, conversion spread, or account charge? Is it documented before you invest time?
- Transferability: Is the reward on-chain and transferable, or only an in-app number or points balance?
- Identity and privacy: Does cash-out require KYC? What personal information, device permissions, or ad-related data are involved?
- Platform and location: Does the feature work on your operating system and in the United States, and is a payout provider available to you?
- Referral dependence: Does the advertised rate depend on recruiting others or on their verification?
- Opportunity cost: How often must you check in, and what is a realistic value of that time if the token cannot be sold?
For U.S. tax questions, keep records of rewards and transactions and consult a qualified tax professional. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances; an app’s label for a reward does not settle the issue.
Protect your money, wallet, and identity
- Install apps from official project sites or authenticated app-store listings. Never use an APK sent by a stranger or referral page.
- Never enter a seed phrase, wallet passphrase, private key, or wallet password into a support chat, claim form, or migration website.
- Do not pay an “unlock,” “verification,” or “release” fee to withdraw promised rewards.
- Be wary of guaranteed returns, countdown pressure, and claims that a paid boost will quickly pay for itself.
- Check that you are using the project’s official wallet and support channels; fake migration services commonly target users waiting for transfers.
- Assume an unverified in-app balance may never become cash. Do not invest money or recruit friends on that assumption.
Which option fits which reader?
- Want a dedicated mobile-mining-style project? Pi is the clearest example in this comparison, but it is participation-based, speculative, and conditional on KYC and migration steps for transferability.
- Want a non-mining reward on Android? Brave Rewards has the clearest defined mechanism: BAT for eligible ads. Check platform, location, and payout eligibility first.
- Want to experiment with a cloud-assisted model? CryptoTab is an option to examine without paying for upgrades, but its hashrate claims are not earnings proof.
- Want to avoid speculative projects? Skip Bee and other tap-to-earn alternatives until transferability and withdrawal terms are verified through current primary documentation.
- Want to mine Bitcoin for real? A phone app is the wrong tool. Research specialized hardware, electricity costs, pool fees, local rules, and the economics before considering mining.
Old recommendation lists also deserve a date check. StormGain’s official mining page says account balances and data were transferred for users on January 13, 2025, so older claims that it is a current mining-app recommendation may be stale. (StormGain notice)
