Yes. In the United States, you can buy Google Play games, apps and eligible digital content without typing a credit-card number into Google Play. The three practical methods reflected in Google’s current U.S. documentation are Google Play balance from a gift card or prepaid credit, PayPal and Cash App Pay. Availability still depends on your country, Google Account, device, purchase and payment-provider status.
A debit card, bank account or other funding source may sit behind PayPal or Cash App. “Without a credit card” means you do not have to add a credit-card number directly to Google Play.

Google’s general setup path is Google Play → profile picture → Payments & subscriptions (or Payment methods) → Add a payment method. Select an option shown for your account and follow the prompts; labels can vary slightly by Android, Play Store version and region. Google’s Android instructions explain the current flow.
1. Use a Google Play gift card or prepaid Play balance
This is usually the simplest choice if you pay with cash, are buying for a child or want a fixed spending limit without connecting a wallet. Buy an authorized Google Play gift card from a legitimate retailer or obtain a legitimate digital code. Google lists U.S. denominations of $10, $15, $25, $50 and $100, plus variable amounts from $5 to $200; retailers can change their available denominations. See Google’s gift-card availability page.

Redeem on Android
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions.
- Tap Redeem code.
- Enter the code and tap Redeem.
- Review the Google Account receiving the credit, then tap Confirm.
Google documents these steps at Android gift-card redemption. Check the account carefully: redeemed balance normally cannot be moved later.
Redeem on a computer
- Go to play.google.com/redeem.
- Enter the code and select Redeem.
- Review the destination account and select Confirm.
At checkout, open the payment-method selector and choose Google Play balance if it is not selected automatically. Play balance can pay for apps, games, digital content and eligible subscriptions, although some items are excluded by regional or developer rules. Google lists balance uses here.
Important limits
- A gift card generally must be redeemed and used in the country and currency where it was purchased, and your Play country may need to match. Do not buy “cheaper” foreign codes.
- Gift cards, prepaid balance and promotional balance are generally nonrefundable and nontransferable except where law requires otherwise. A redeemed code normally cannot be moved to another Google Account. Google’s refund and transfer rules apply.
- You cannot use existing Google Play balance or Play Points to buy another Google Play gift card.
- If your balance is short, do not assume Google will combine it with another method; inspect the checkout screen.

2. Pay with PayPal
PayPal suits people who already use it and want Google Play to charge a wallet rather than have the card number entered directly in Play. PayPal may still rely on a linked bank account, debit card or PayPal balance, and Google Play does not establish that every PayPal transaction is fee-free.
Add PayPal
- Open Google Play and go to Payment methods or Payments & subscriptions.
- Choose Add a payment method.
- Select PayPal.
- Sign in and approve the connection.
- At checkout, select PayPal before confirming the purchase.
Google says linked PayPal can be used for U.S. apps and digital content in the Play Store app and web store. If PayPal Security Key is enabled, Google says you may need to add PayPal through a computer or mobile browser instead of the Play Store app. See Google’s current U.S. payment-method page.
For a subscription, verify that PayPal is accepted for that recurring purchase and that your PayPal funding source will remain available.
3. Use Cash App Pay
Cash App Pay is a current U.S. option Google names for buying apps and digital content. You need a Cash App Pay account; availability can depend on your account, region and the specific checkout.

- Tap Add a payment method.
- Select Cash App Pay if it appears.
- Complete the authorization prompts.
- Approve Cash App Pay when you purchase the app or game.
Google’s general instructions are at this support page. Cash App Pay is not automatically the same as a Cash App Card: a card may be processed as a card, while Cash App Pay is the payment method Google specifically lists. Do not assume a recurring subscription will be supported until checkout confirms it.
How to complete any purchase
- Open the app or game listing in Google Play.
- Tap the price or purchase button.
- Review the payment method shown.
- Tap the payment-method selector and choose Play balance, PayPal or Cash App Pay when available.
- Confirm the purchase.
The purchase belongs to the Google Account used at checkout. Signing into that same account on a replacement Android device normally restores access, subject to Google Play compatibility and availability rules. Google explains account association here.

If your preferred option is missing
Google does not promise every method to every account. Work through this checklist:
- Check the payment methods page and use only methods actually displayed.
- Verify your Play country; payment support is country-specific.
- Update Google Play and try the Android app if a method is app-only.
- Complete identity or payment-provider verification and check spending limits.
- Confirm the provider account is in good standing.
- Try another supported method or contact Google Play or the provider.
For a rejected or unreadable gift-card code, check that the retailer activated it, it has not already been redeemed, the country matches and you entered it in the intended account. Google’s troubleshooting guidance is at this page.

Regional alternatives outside the U.S.
Google’s accepted methods vary by country. Depending on the market, users may see direct carrier billing, cash top-ups at participating retailers, local e-wallets, online-banking options or country-specific prepaid cards. Google’s country-method overview is the authoritative starting point.

Carrier billing
Where offered, charges go to a mobile-operator account. Requirements can include the Play Store app (not the website), an account in good standing, a supported device and plan, available spending capacity, a non-rooted device and the correct SIM on dual-SIM phones. Some carriers do not support subscriptions. Google’s country-specific documentation gives an example at this carrier-billing page.
Carrier billing is a regional alternative, not a standard U.S. recommendation: Google’s current U.S. page does not list it and records that UScellular stopped being accepted for new Google Play purchases and subscriptions on January 29, 2026.
Alternative billing in eligible apps
In some countries, participating developers can offer a billing system other than Google Play’s. It is app- and country-dependent, may not apply to games, and cannot use Google Play balance or gift cards. The developer or billing provider handles transaction support and refund rules.
