The Auchan promotion was cheaper than Black Friday only after trade-in. In the offer published on December 2, 2023, the new Google Pixel 8 (128 GB) cost €749, or an effective €649 after an eligible old phone generated a €100 bonus. That made it €80 cheaper than the €729 Black Friday price. Without trade-in, Auchan’s price was €20 higher. The promotion has ended.
Historical deal: this article explains the December 2023 offer, not a currently redeemable discount.

The arithmetic determines whether the headline was true. At €749, the phone was not cheaper than Black Friday: it cost €20 more. At the conditional €649 price, it was €80 below €729 and €150 below the €799 reference price. The €649 figure was therefore an effective trade-in price, not the ordinary checkout price. How the €100 trade-in worked
The Auchan leaflet described a campaign running from November 28 through December 24, 2023. Customers brought an old mobile to a participating Auchan hypermarket and bought the Pixel 8 128 GB at the same time. The phone was assessed in store through the Comparecycle partner service. The leaflet advertised at least €100 off under the campaign conditions, rather than an unconditional €100 cash reduction for every handset.

- Confirm the valuation and eligibility before assuming the €649 total.
- Complete the Pixel 8 purchase during the campaign period.
Campaign terms can require the device to be identifiable, powered on, owned by the customer and in an accepted model or condition. Those checks, and the participating-store requirement, mean the final valuation had to be confirmed locally. See the Auchan promotional leaflet for the period and offer conditions.
Which Pixel 8 was included?
This was the French-market, new Google Pixel 8 with 128 GB of storage—not a refurbished phone and not the 256 GB version. The product specification for the black model lists Google’s Tensor G3 processor, a 6.2-inch display, 5G, nano-SIM plus eSIM support, wireless charging, and a dual rear camera system with 50-megapixel and 12-megapixel sensors. The Auchan product page is a separate listing from the 2023 promotion, so its later price or stock status cannot be used to recreate the deal.

Was it a good Pixel 8 deal?
With an eligible trade-in
Yes, on price alone. €649 was materially below the €729 Black Friday price, provided the old phone qualified for the campaign’s bonus. The value was strongest for someone already planning to dispose of an eligible handset and able to visit a participating hypermarket.
Without a trade-in
No. Paying €749 meant spending €20 more than the Black Friday price. A shopper without a qualifying device should have compared the ordinary Auchan price with other €729-era offers rather than treating €649 as universally available.
Product trade-offs
Contemporary testing highlighted the Pixel 8’s camera quality, clean software, 120 Hz display and Google’s stated seven-year Android and security-update commitment for the generation. Reported drawbacks included weaker demanding-game performance than some rivals, heat under sustained load, average battery life and relatively slow charging. These are product characteristics, not evidence that the expired promotion remains attractive today. Frandroid’s coverage provides that contemporary buying context.
Availability now
Status: ended. The specific December 2023 offer is no longer active. A recently indexed Auchan page for the black 128 GB model showed €265.99 and identified Auchan as the seller, but also displayed “Bientôt dispo” (“coming soon”). That is an indexed listing signal, not confirmation of dependable live stock or a continuation of the trade-in promotion. How to compare a replacement offer
- Match the configuration: compare 128 GB with 128 GB; a separate 256 GB pink listing is not the same product or deal.
- Check condition: new, refurbished and used phones have different prices, battery expectations and warranties.
- Verify the seller: Auchan’s marketplace can contain third-party sellers. Seller identity, returns and warranty should be visible on the product page.
- Include the full cost: add delivery or collection fees and distinguish an immediate discount from a later reimbursement.
- Confirm stock: a “coming soon” or clearance listing is not equivalent to an in-stock national promotion.
At the time, coverage placed Google and RED by SFR around €729, with Amazon, Fnac, Boulanger, Darty and SFR around €749. Marketplace prices could differ because seller, warranty and condition varied. The contemporary comparison is historical and should not be read as a current price list.

New versus refurbished alternatives
A current shopper may encounter direct Auchan stock, third-party marketplace listings, refurbished specialists or carrier offers tied to a plan. Back Market’s Pixel listings can be substantially cheaper than new stock, but grade, battery condition, accessories, seller and warranty must be checked independently. Its listings are not equivalent to a factory-new Auchan handset: Back Market Pixel offers.

The practical lesson from the Auchan promotion is simple: compare the price you can actually obtain after all conditions, not the promotional headline. In 2023, that meant €649 only for a qualifying in-store trade-in; otherwise, €749 was not a Black Friday-beating price.
