Bankwest’s Morley branch and its ATM at 248 Walter Road closed at noon on September 3, 2024. That closure was part of a wider move: Bankwest now says it is a fully digital bank with no Bankwest-branded branches. Customers can still use its app, online banking and phone support, while participating Australia Post outlets provide a limited set of cash services—not a full replacement for a branch.
What closed in Morley—and when?
The Bankwest branch at 248 Walter Road, Morley, Western Australia, closed permanently at 12pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. The ATM associated with the branch closed as well. The closure ended in-person service at that site; it did not close Bankwest as a bank or automatically transfer every customer to CommBank. Bankwest’s Morley closure assessment records the date and location.
Bankwest says it has since completed its transition to a digital-bank model and no longer operates branches under the Bankwest name. The bank continues to offer accounts and customer support through digital and telephone channels, with some physical transactions available through third parties. Bankwest’s contact page lists its current service channels.

Why did Bankwest close the Morley branch?
Bankwest cited a shift to app and online banking and declining use of its counters. Its Morley assessment says the branch averaged 67 over-the-counter transactions a day in February 2024, 20.8% fewer than in February 2023. The same document reports more than 650,358 average daily personal-banking logins across the Bankwest app and online banking in December 2023.
#1 Best Overall
In its wider March 2024 announcement, Bankwest said 97% of transactions were digital and fewer than 2% of its customers regularly visited a branch. These are Bankwest’s aggregate usage figures, not an independent measure of whether individual customers can manage without in-person help. The bank said it wanted to redirect investment toward digital banking, broker services, technology, operations and customer service. It also cited the migration of Bankwest business-banking customers to CommBank as one factor reducing branch demand. Personal and business customers should check the arrangements for their own accounts rather than assume the same transition applies to both. Bankwest’s announcement describes the broader plan.
Morley was part of a wider branch exit
Bankwest announced in March 2024 that 45 branches would close by October 2024 and 15 regional locations would be converted into Commonwealth Bank branches. Perth closures included Morley and locations such as Joondalup, Mandurah, Midland, Rockingham and St Georges Terrace. This was not a simple conversion of every Bankwest branch into a CommBank branch: some regional sites were to continue under the CommBank name, while Bankwest itself ended its branch network.
Bankwest also said it would offer new career opportunities to affected branch colleagues, with roles redirected across technology, operations and customer service. PerthNow reported that about 350 affected staff were offered new roles. Those statements do not establish that every employee accepted or retained a role. PerthNow’s September 2024 report covered the Morley closure.

Where Morley customers can bank now
| Need | Available route | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Check balances, transfer money or manage an account | Bankwest App or Online Banking | Requires access to digital banking and the registered contact details needed for verification. |
| Speak with Bankwest | Call 13 17 19 in Australia; Bankwest says general enquiries are available 24/7. From overseas, call +61 8 9449 2840. | International call costs may apply. In-app messaging and secure Bankmail are also available for relevant enquiries. |
| Deposit cash, withdraw cash or check a balance in person | Participating Bank@Post outlets | Bring your Bankwest card and PIN. Limits apply, and the service menu is narrower than a branch’s. |
| Withdraw cash from an ATM | CommBank, ANZ, NAB and Westpac ATMs | Bankwest says these ATM withdrawals do not incur Bankwest ATM fees; independent ATM operators may charge their own fees. Credit-card cash advances can have separate interest and fees. |
| Repay a Bankwest credit card | Bank@Post or available digital payment channels | Bank@Post repayments are subject to outlet availability and limits. Credit-card cash withdrawals are not available through Bank@Post. |
| Resolve a complex matter face to face | Contact Bankwest to ask about the appropriate support; a CommBank branch may be an option for some needs | A CommBank branch is not a guarantee of service for every Bankwest account or request. Confirm before travelling. |
Bankwest lists telephone, app, online and secure messaging options on its contact page. General enquiries are listed as available around the clock; particular services may have their own requirements or processes.
Using Bank@Post for cash and cheques
At participating Australia Post outlets, Bank@Post generally supports Bankwest balance enquiries, cash deposits, cash withdrawals and Bankwest credit-card repayments. It is an agency service with defined transactions, not a Bankwest counter: outlet participation and transaction limits matter, and customers need their card and PIN. Bankwest’s closure assessment estimated that up to 96% of cash withdrawals and deposits previously handled in a branch could be completed through Bank@Post. That is the bank’s service-capability estimate, not a promise that every transaction will be accepted at every outlet.
For Morley, the closure assessment identified the Morley Post Shop at Centro Galleria, Shop 52, 4 Collier Road, about 1 kilometre from the former branch. The document listed historical hours of Monday to Friday 9am–5pm, Saturday 9am–12:30pm and Sunday closed. Those are the hours recorded in the closure document, not a guarantee of current trading hours; check with Australia Post before making a trip.

Bankwest says loose coins are accepted at Bank@Post up to $20; larger amounts must be bagged by denomination. Cheques are not supported in the Bankwest app. Deposits may be accepted at selected CommBank ATMs or Bank@Post locations, subject to the outlet and transaction rules. Check the current service details at Bankwest’s cash and cheque page.

That location information is historical, and it does not mean CommBank staff can carry out every Bankwest transaction. Confirm the branch’s current details and ask whether it can handle your specific request before setting out.
What “fully digital” means in practice
For Bankwest customers, “fully digital” means there is no ordinary Bankwest-branded branch counter. The main channels are the app, online banking, telephone support and secure digital messages such as Bankmail. Some physical services remain through ATMs, Australia Post outlets, mailed documents and CommBank-related pathways. Home-loan customers may deal with Bankwest through brokers, phone support and secure document channels rather than a branch.

Bankwest launched a new app and website in February 2025. It also reports service availability for defined periods: for Q1 2026, the bank published 100% availability for card payments and online account access and 99.92% for fast payments. These are Bankwest’s figures for that reporting period, not a guarantee of uninterrupted access at any future time. Bankwest’s app and website announcement and its payment-services availability page provide the relevant information.

Bankwest’s first-login guidance says customers use their Personal Access Number (PAN) and either a password or four-digit PIN when first accessing the app or online banking. Have access to the phone number or email registered with the bank, since verification or support may depend on those details. Follow the bank’s own identity checks rather than sharing credentials with anyone who offers to set up access for you. See Bankwest’s first-time login instructions.

- Install or open the official Bankwest App, or go to Bankwest Online Banking directly.
- Have your PAN ready and follow the bank’s prompts to log in or set up access.
- Check that your registered mobile number and email address are current; contact Bankwest if you cannot access them.
- Learn how to use in-app messaging or Bankmail for secure communications where appropriate.
- Save Bankwest’s official phone number from its contact page so you can reach the bank without relying on an unexpected message.
If the app will not install or update, you lose your phone, forget your password or PIN, have an obsolete registered number, or cannot pass an identity check, use Bankwest’s official support channels. Password-reset options are available from the app and online-banking login screen, but a customer who cannot access registered contact details may need to call. If a payment service is temporarily unavailable, check Bankwest’s service-status information and contact the bank through an official channel for urgent account-specific help.

When a digital route or post office may not be enough
Bank@Post is most useful for straightforward cash transactions and balance checks. It is not designed to replace branch help with lending advice, complex account changes, unusual large transactions or specialist investigations. A CommBank branch may provide face-to-face banking for customers who qualify for or choose an appropriate CommBank service, but it should not be treated as a universal Bankwest service desk.
If you have limited internet or smartphone access, need accessibility support, handle cash or coins regularly, or need help with identity verification, an estate, a power of attorney, fraud or a business-banking arrangement, contact Bankwest and describe the task before travelling. Ask what documents are required, whether the matter can be handled by phone or secure messaging, and whether an in-person CommBank appointment is appropriate. Bankwest announced a dedicated support program for customers who used branches exclusively; it said eligible customers could choose to move to CommBank everyday-banking accounts to retain branch access. This was an option for that customer group, not a requirement for all Bankwest customers.
Protect your credentials while seeking help: do not log in through unexpected email or text links, and do not give callers your password, SMS code, card number or full login details. Use the official app or type Bankwest’s address yourself. Bankwest’s Morley closure assessment specifically warned that closure-related QR codes and links should not ask for PANs, passwords or SMS codes.

The trade-off for Morley customers
Digital banking provides account access without a branch visit and Bank@Post preserves some basic cash services. But neither reproduces the full range of over-the-counter help: customers who rely on cash, need accessible face-to-face assistance or have a complicated problem may have to plan ahead and confirm which channel can actually resolve it. The practical next step is to match the task to the channel and verify the requirements before travelling.
