Yes. OpenAI’s former ChatGPT Team plan is now ChatGPT Business, and a new workspace can start with two paid standard ChatGPT seats. The U.S. pricing page checked on August 18, 2026 lists $20 per user per month with annual billing or $25 per user per month with monthly billing. That makes the two-person minimum $40 per month equivalent on annual billing (about $480 per year) or $50 per month on monthly billing, before tax and regional price differences.
Each seat belongs to a separate person. Business is not a shared login or a two-for-one Plus subscription; its main advantages are a company workspace, centralized administration, and business data protections.
What happened to ChatGPT Team?
OpenAI renamed ChatGPT Team to ChatGPT Business on August 29, 2025. If you remember ChatGPT Team, you are looking at the same product under its newer name; current OpenAI pages and invoices use “Business.” The rename itself did not change the plan, although OpenAI has since changed seat, usage and billing details.

How the two-seat minimum works
The minimum is two standard ChatGPT seats. A seat is assigned to an individual member with an individual account. The owner can reduce future standard-seat counts, but not below two, and the second seat should be for an intended, ongoing team member rather than a dummy or spare login.

What two seats cost
The following figures are the U.S. prices shown by OpenAI on August 18, 2026. Taxes, currency conversion, country pricing and the billing channel can change the amount you actually pay.

These totals are arithmetic from OpenAI’s listed rates, not a separate quotation. The live pricing page is OpenAI Business pricing. Older pages quoting $25 annual or $30 monthly Team pricing are outdated.

Starting August 19, 2026, OpenAI says an additional paid seat is charged immediately and prorated for the remaining billing period instead of waiting for a later invoice. The total amount over the billing period does not change; only the timing does. Check the current billing terms if you add a third member.

OpenAI describes Business usage as unlimited subject to abuse guardrails, with additional workspace credits available for usage beyond included limits. Features and limits can change, so treat the live Business overview as the current reference rather than a permanent feature list.
What makes Business different from two Plus subscriptions?
Two Plus accounts give two people individual ChatGPT access. Business adds organization-level ownership and controls.

OpenAI lists Plus at $20 per month. Business is therefore not automatically cheaper. You are paying for administration, workspace separation, privacy terms and team-oriented resources.
Administration for a two-person business
Business provides centralized billing, workspace ownership, member invitations, owner/admin/member roles, access management, usage visibility, budgeting and spend controls. It also supports SAML single sign-on and multifactor authentication, plus workspace settings and available company-context connectors.
For two founders or a founder and contractor, the practical benefits are one company-paid invoice, a defined place for business work, and the ability to remove a member without handing over a personal account. OpenAI’s feature comparison is on the Business pricing page.
These are not all enterprise controls. OpenAI associates custom retention, data residency, SCIM, advanced governance, dedicated onboarding, service-level agreements and enhanced support with Enterprise rather than standard Business.
Privacy: what teammates can see
Business is a collaborative workspace, not a shared chat archive. OpenAI says each user keeps an individual chat history and chooses what to share. A colleague does not automatically receive a searchable copy of every private conversation. Shared links, GPTs, Projects, apps and other workspace resources can expose content to people who have access.
OpenAI says it does not train its models on ChatGPT Business workspace data by default and encrypts Business data in transit and at rest. “No training by default” does not mean no processing or that administrators are barred from every form of workspace management. Review the applicable terms and commitments in OpenAI’s Business data and privacy guidance.
What Business does not include
No API credits
ChatGPT Business and the OpenAI API are separate products with separate billing. A Business subscription does not provide API credits or pay for API usage. Developers must maintain an API account and budget independently. See OpenAI’s Business FAQ.
Not every enterprise control
Business is suitable for many small teams, but it is not a substitute for Enterprise when you need custom retention, data residency, SCIM, extensive security governance, contractual SLAs, dedicated support, invoicing or volume pricing. Unlimited is qualified
“Unlimited” refers to access subject to OpenAI’s abuse guardrails and applicable limits. It should not be read as unlimited use under every circumstance.
The Codex-seat exception
OpenAI distinguishes standard ChatGPT seats from a separate Codex-seat type. Standard seats have a fixed per-user subscription, include ChatGPT and Codex, and are the seats a new two-person customer should expect to purchase.
Separate Codex seats are usage-based, Codex-only and do not provide ChatGPT workspace access. OpenAI says they are unavailable to new Business workspaces after June 24, 2026, and unavailable to existing workspaces that had not previously added one. For most new customers, this legacy option is irrelevant. Details are in the Business overview and Business FAQ.
Sign-up and workspace setup
- Sign in to ChatGPT and create or upgrade to a Business workspace.
- Select standard ChatGPT seats and purchase at least two.
- Invite the second intended team member.
- Assign owner, admin or member roles.
- Configure workspace settings, data controls, access and available apps.
- Keep personal and Business workspaces separate unless you have a deliberate migration plan.
OpenAI’s current help pages describe the process at a high level, but interface labels change frequently. Confirm the wording shown in your account before directing staff through a precise click path.
Leaving, merging or losing access
A personal workspace and a Business workspace can exist under the same account. Always check which workspace is active before uploading sensitive material or sharing a conversation.

Merging personal data into Business is consequential. OpenAI advises saving important conversations first, says Business workspace data export is unavailable through the normal Business export path, and warns that losing membership or workspace access can affect migrated data. Read the migration guidance at OpenAI’s workspace lifecycle article before merging anything.
Is Business worthwhile for only two people?
Choose Business when
- Both people need company-paid ChatGPT access.
- You want one invoice and a company-owned workspace.
- Business data should be excluded from model training by default.
- You need member management, SSO or MFA, usage visibility and spend controls.
- You will use shared GPTs, Projects, apps or company context.
Choose Plus when
- The two people are independent users who do not need a shared workspace.
- You prefer separate consumer subscriptions and no two-seat commitment.
- Neither person needs formal business data terms or administration.
Consider Enterprise when
- You require custom retention, data residency, SCIM, advanced governance, SLAs or dedicated support.
- Your deployment is larger or subject to formal procurement and compliance requirements.
Consider an integrated suite instead
Google Workspace with Gemini is a natural alternative when Gmail, Docs, Drive and Meet are already the center of the business. Google’s official pricing lists Workspace Standard at $14 per user per month, Workspace Plus at $22 after its listed promotional period, Enterprise Standard at $27 with annual commitment or $32.40 monthly, and Enterprise Plus at $35 with annual commitment or $42 monthly: Google Workspace pricing and Google Workspace Enterprise.

Bottom line
ChatGPT Team is now ChatGPT Business. A new customer needs two standard seats, costing $40 per month equivalent on annual U.S. billing or $50 per month on monthly billing before tax. Each person gets an individual ChatGPT-and-Codex seat, while the company gets centralized billing, workspace administration and Business data protections. It is worth the premium over two Plus subscriptions when those organizational benefits matter; it is not a discount bundle, an API plan or a full Enterprise deployment.
