Yes, if the discount gets you a 16GB M2 MacBook Air at a genuinely low final price; be much more cautious about an 8GB/256GB model. Compare the exact configuration and seller with newer Macs before buying. The phrase “more popular than ever” is not established by sales or ranking data, and the documented $749 offer was a November 2024 deal—not a verified price available today.
What does “$250 less” mean for this MacBook Air?
A discount matters only when you know what is being discounted. Check the screen size, memory, storage, GPU, condition, seller, and final checkout price. A price cut against an old list price—or a different configuration—is not necessarily a good deal.
- Configuration: Confirm whether the 13-inch M2 Air has 8GB or 16GB of unified memory and 256GB, 512GB, or more storage. These components are not practical post-purchase upgrades.
- Condition and seller: Distinguish new, open-box, used, and refurbished. For a marketplace listing, verify who actually sells and fulfills it.
- Price mechanics: Check whether the price requires a clipped coupon, membership, education eligibility, or trade-in, and whether it appears at checkout before tax and shipping.
- Ownership terms: Read the return window and warranty. For a used machine, ask for battery health and confirm that it is not activation-locked or managed by an organization.
- Included power adapter: M2 configurations can differ; Apple lists a 30W adapter with the cited 8-core-GPU configuration and a 35W dual-port adapter with some higher configurations.
A November 14, 2024 deal report documented a $749 price—$250 below the then-usual price—at Amazon and Best Buy, including 8GB/256GB and 16GB/256GB versions; at least one Amazon configuration required a coupon. The 13-inch M2 Air remains a light, fanless laptop for everyday work: the fanless design is silent, and the aluminum body weighs 2.7 pounds. Apple’s specifications list a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display at 2560×1664 and 500 nits, a 1080p camera, an 8-core CPU, an 8- or 10-core GPU depending on configuration, and a 16-core Neural Engine. It is a reasonable fit for browsing, office and school tasks, coding, photo editing, and light video work; that does not make it a workstation for prolonged heavy workloads. Apple rates the cited model for up to 15 hours of wireless web use or up to 18 hours of Apple TV app playback. Those are Apple’s test-based maximums, not a promise of everyday runtime; brightness, workload, video calls, and battery age all matter. The machine also has MagSafe charging, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and macOS compatibility for people already using Apple devices.
Which configuration is worth buying?
Best target: 16GB memory
For several years of general use, 16GB is the safer target. It leaves more room for many browser tabs and simultaneous applications, programming tools, large spreadsheets, music production, virtual machines, and photo or video projects. It is a preference for headroom, not a claim that every 8GB machine fails.

8GB: only for lighter workloads at a clear bargain
Eight gigabytes can handle email, moderate browsing, streaming, basic schoolwork, office apps, and light photo tasks—especially if you tend to use one or two demanding apps at a time. - 256GB: workable for basic use if you stream media and rely on cloud storage, but local files can fill it quickly.
- 512GB: a safer general-purpose choice for people who keep projects and files on the laptop.
- 1TB or more: useful for large local media libraries, photo and video work, or development tools—but do not pay so much for storage on an older model that a newer laptop becomes the better buy.
Memory and internal storage are not user-upgradeable after purchase, so include the cost of external storage if a 256GB model will not meet your needs.
What are the trade-offs?
- Ports and monitors: The M2 Air has MagSafe, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, and a headphone jack, but no built-in HDMI or USB-A. Apple lists support for one external display up to 6K at 60Hz for the cited configuration. A hub or adapter may add cost and desk clutter; users who need multiple monitors should check support requirements before purchasing.
- Sustained heavy work: The fanless design keeps operation quiet, but this is not the right choice for buyers whose routine depends on prolonged rendering, compiling, or long video exports.
- Older hardware: The M2 Air was released in July 2022. It remains capable for everyday tasks, but it is an older generation than newer Air models; the available evidence does not establish a current benchmark comparison.
- Used or refurbished condition: Battery condition and warranty depend on the seller and product condition. How should you compare it with a newer MacBook Air?
Compare the final prices for equivalent memory and storage, not the size of the advertised discount. As a practical rule of thumb, if a comparable newer Air is only about $100–$150 more, paying extra for the newer model is generally easier to justify. If the M2 is at least $200–$250 cheaper and has the same memory, it becomes more compelling for ordinary workloads. These are buying thresholds, not measured performance claims.
Do not compare an 8GB/256GB M2 with a newer 16GB model as if they were equivalent. Check current models and configurations on Apple’s MacBook Air page, then compare the actual checkout totals. A larger discount on the older machine does not compensate automatically for less memory or storage.

What do refurbished prices tell you?
Apple Certified Refurbished examples show why configuration matters, but they are dated price snapshots rather than live quotes. A 16GB/256GB 13-inch M2 Air was listed for $849 on Apple’s U.S. education storefront when crawled in July 2026; a 16GB/1TB configuration was listed for $929 on Apple’s U.S. refurbished store when crawled several months earlier. Those examples are useful for judging whether a purported sale is competitive, not proof that every configuration is a bargain. A high-capacity older Air can cost enough to undermine its value versus a newer model.

Account for costs beyond the laptop
If you need HDMI, USB-A, or SD-card connections, budget for an appropriate hub or adapter. Users with large media libraries may also need an external SSD; neither accessory is a substitute for choosing adequate internal storage if you need files available while traveling. Apple lists its Mac display and mount accessories and storage accessories, but accessory prices and suitability vary.
AppleCare+ is another optional cost, not a guaranteed money-saver. Apple’s U.S. pricing document lists the 13-inch M1/M2 MacBook Air at $64.99 monthly, $58 for two-year billing, or $179 for three-year billing. Who should buy the discounted M2 Air?
- Good fit: students, office and remote workers, commuters, and iPhone users who want a light, quiet macOS laptop and can get a 16GB model at a substantial discount.
- Conditional fit: basic users considering 8GB/256GB, if the final price is very low and their work is light.
- Look elsewhere: buyers who need sustained professional performance, multiple external displays, many built-in ports, substantial local storage, or gaming-focused Windows hardware.
- Wait or compare: anyone paying nearly as much for an 8GB/256GB M2 as for a newer 16GB Air, or buying from a seller with unclear warranty, return, or battery terms.
Is it “more popular than ever”?
That claim is not independently demonstrated by the available public evidence: no sales rankings, search trends, shipment figures, or inventory data establish an all-time popularity record. A deep discount can renew interest in an older Mac, but the discount itself does not prove that the model is more popular than ever. Treat the phrase as headline framing, not a verified sales finding.
