Future Electronics Inc., the Montreal-based electronic-components distributor, confirmed in September 2001 that it had acquired Steiner Electronic Austria, a distributor based in Tullnerbach. The purchase price was not disclosed. Future said the business would operate as Future Electronics Austria, with Steiner president Karl Kadiera staying on as regional director.
What Future Electronics acquired
Steiner Electronic Austria GmbH distributed semiconductors, flat-panel displays and power supplies. It had about 11 employees, according to contemporaneous coverage. The reports describe Steiner as a distributor, not a manufacturer. (EE Times; EDN)
Future Electronics was founded in Montreal in 1968 and operated as an international technical distributor. In a May 2001 announcement, Agilent described Future as a major distributor with operations across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas. (Agilent announcement, May 23, 2001)

How Future planned to integrate Steiner
Name and management
Future said Steiner would operate as Future Electronics Austria. Kadiera was to remain as regional director and report to Jean-Pierre Velly, then Future Europe’s vice president of sales. The reports confirm Kadiera’s planned continuity, but do not say whether all 11 employees stayed, when systems or branding changes were completed, or whether Steiner continued as a separate legal entity. Warehouse and supplier access
Future said Austrian customers would gain access to its automated, centralized UK warehouse. The company described that facility as supporting same-day dispatch for next-day delivery across Europe; this was a 2001 service description, not a verified present-day delivery guarantee. Future also planned to add its broader European supplier line card to the Austrian operation. The report describes an intended expansion, not proof that each authorization was immediately available locally. (EE Times, September 21, 2001)

The historical line card named Motorola, Fairchild, Agilent, AVX, AMD, Cypress, International Rectifier, Microchip, ON Semiconductor, Vishay, Sipex, Samsung and Micrel. These are names reported in 2001 and should not be read as a current supplier list; several companies have since changed names, ownership or corporate structure. (EE Times)

Contemporaneous coverage portrayed the purchase as unusual for Future Electronics, which generally favored entering countries organically by building around its integrated information-technology and logistics infrastructure. Read as a strategic combination, Steiner brought an established Austrian presence and local customer relationships, while Future proposed to add its wider European supplier portfolio and centralized distribution. Keeping Kadiera in a regional leadership role would preserve some local management continuity. That is an interpretation of the reported structure, not a formal rationale or quantified assessment issued by Future.

Austria’s company register currently records Future Electronics Austria GmbH, lists its headquarters in Vienna and names Future Electronics Limited as shareholder. This confirms a present legal-register entry, but does not establish that the company’s location, staffing, customer base or operating arrangements are unchanged from 2001. The contemporaneous reports do not disclose the deal’s price, valuation, revenue, ownership percentage or other transaction terms. They also do not establish whether the Tullnerbach operation remained at the same location, whether every planned supplier addition took effect, or what became of Kadiera after his stated regional-director appointment.
