Sentinel Technologies announced FortisX on April 29, 2024: a managed detection and response (MDR) service built around Cisco XDR. Cisco supplies the detection, correlation, threat-intelligence and response technology; Sentinel operates the managed-service layer, including 24/7 SOC monitoring and customer support. The distinction matters: FortisX is best understood as Sentinel’s managed security service using Cisco XDR, not as a separately documented Sentinel-owned XDR platform.
Cisco still lists FortisX in its managed-service partner directory. But public materials do not publish its price, contractual response-time guarantees, minimum term, supported geographies or full integration list. Those details must be confirmed with Sentinel before comparing proposals.
What Sentinel and Cisco announced
The 2024 announcement paired Sentinel’s Fortis managed-security portfolio with Cisco XDR to create FortisX. Sentinel described it as an MDR service, while the announcement headline used “managed XDR.” In practice, the service combines an XDR platform with a provider-operated security service: Cisco provides technology, and Sentinel brings implementation, customer context, SOC operations and response expertise. CRN reported the launch and the companies’ stated goals.
That is more than a software resale, but the name alone does not establish exactly what each customer receives. Telemetry sources, access permissions, response authority, integrations and service commitments depend on the deployment and contract.

What FortisX is described as doing
Cisco’s current FortisX partner profile describes a service built around Cisco XDR, third-party security integrations and MITRE ATT&CK alignment. Listed capabilities include 24/7 SOC monitoring, threat hunting, detection and investigation, notification, remediation guidance, host and user isolation, and automated playbooks. The profile also lists incident-response support such as restoration, forensics, insurer liaison, and tabletop preparation and response.
These are capability descriptions, not a public contract specification. The profile does not say which actions are included in every package, which require customer approval, or whether every response function is performed automatically. A buyer should distinguish among an alert, an investigation, advice to remediate, provider-executed containment and a separately scoped incident-response engagement.
What Cisco XDR contributes
Cisco describes XDR as correlating signals from multiple security products, applying analytics and Talos threat intelligence, prioritizing incidents, and enabling investigation and response actions. Its design aims to give analysts context across connected tools rather than make them assess every alert in isolation. Cisco also supports selected third-party integrations. See the Cisco XDR overview and product data sheet.

The 2024 announcement emphasized AI, machine learning, real-time correlation and faster ticketing or response. Those were stated product and service goals, not published independent test results. Public sources do not provide FortisX-specific benchmarks for detection accuracy, false-positive reduction, analyst productivity or time to contain an incident.

- HARDWARE PLUS SECURITY SERVICES: FortiGate-60F Firewall Appliance bundled with 1 year of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection.
- UNIFIED THREAT PROTECTION (UTP): Secures against advanced online threats with comprehensive web filtering and anti-botnet technologies.
- OPTIMIZED FOR MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES: Tailored for businesses needing robust security without the infrastructure of larger enterprises.
- RELIABLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: FortiCare Premium ensures high-quality support and service continuity.
- EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.
XDR also does not automatically mean complete visibility. If an organization connects endpoint tools but omits relevant identity, network, cloud, email or firewall data, investigations may lack useful context. The quality of correlation depends on what is connected, how well assets and users are identified, and how detections and policies are tuned.
MDR, XDR and managed XDR are not interchangeable
- MDR is a service: a provider monitors, investigates and helps respond to threats.
- XDR is a technology and operating approach for correlating security signals across multiple domains and products.
- Managed XDR generally means a provider operates or augments an XDR platform for the customer.
FortisX combines these ideas: it is Sentinel’s managed MDR/XDR offering using Cisco XDR. That does not prove every customer gets the same tools, telemetry coverage or response rights. Ask for a written service description that maps each claimed capability to its included data sources, staffing, approval steps and service-level commitment.
Why the partnership matters
For Sentinel, Cisco XDR offered a way to add Cisco analytics, threat intelligence, integrations and automation to its managed-security services rather than build every platform capability itself. For Cisco, a service partner can bring technology into customer environments and operate it as an ongoing service. Sentinel already had Fortis offerings and a longstanding Cisco relationship; the launch discussion highlighted midmarket organizations that may not have the people or budget to run a full SOC.

That was a forward-looking expectation expressed in 2024, not proof that a particular roadmap outcome has since been delivered. Cisco documents integrations with Splunk Cloud and Splunk Enterprise; an integration should not be mistaken for all Splunk functionality being native to every Cisco XDR tier.

Who might consider FortisX?
It may be worth evaluating for a midmarket or enterprise organization that needs continuous monitoring, lacks round-the-clock SOC staffing, wants help implementing security tools, or already uses Cisco products and wants a managed operating model. Third-party integrations may help organizations with mixed environments, subject to the specific supported products and service scope.
It may be a weaker fit for a buyer that needs transparent self-service pricing, wants complete control over every investigation and containment action, only needs endpoint-focused MDR, or is deeply standardized on a competing security ecosystem. An organization with an established, staffed SOC may prefer to operate Cisco XDR itself or retain its existing analytics workflow.
Sentinel’s broader managed-services description discusses continuous monitoring, threat hunting and managed security services. Cisco’s profile also displays a 62 NPS and a 96.62% overall customer-satisfaction figure for NOC/SOC synergy. These are Sentinel-reported figures shown on its Cisco profile; the page does not provide methodology or sample size, so they should not be treated as independently verified outcome measures.

- Coverage: Which endpoint, network, identity, cloud, email and firewall telemetry sources are included? Which Cisco products, if any, are required?
- Integrations: Which third-party products are supported and commercially covered? Are integrations included in the quoted service or separately licensed?
- Operating model: Is the service fully managed, co-managed or customer-directed? Who monitors and investigates alerts, and can the customer access the platform and case data directly?
- Response authority: May Sentinel isolate hosts or users, or run playbooks without approval? What exclusions, emergency contacts, rollback procedures and customer approval rules apply?
- Service levels: What are the response, escalation and containment commitments by severity, including outside business hours? A 24/7 monitoring description is not itself a guaranteed response time.
- Incident response: Are forensics, restoration, insurer liaison and tabletop work included, optional or separately billed? What happens during a confirmed ransomware incident?
- Data and compliance: Where is security data stored? What retention and ingestion limits apply? Which entity and service scope are covered by compliance claims, and what audit evidence is available?
- Existing tools: How will FortisX work alongside Splunk or another SIEM? Which system becomes the source of truth for incidents, and does the arrangement duplicate existing workflows?
- Commercial terms and exit: What are the price drivers, minimum term, minimum deployment size, supported geographies and renewal terms? Can the customer retain or export data and investigations after leaving?
Cisco’s current licensing documentation describes XDR Essentials as providing core analytics, correlation, threat intelligence, hunting and response actions; Advantage adds commercially supported curated third-party integrations and XDR forensics; and Premier adds Cisco-managed detection and response, security validation and selected Talos incident-response services. See Cisco’s XDR licensing page. These are Cisco tier descriptions and do not establish which license or terms apply to a FortisX contract.

Cisco’s data sheet says standard licensing includes 90 days of data retention and a default ingestion limit of 2 GB per user per month, with additional retention and ingestion available for purchase. Those figures describe Cisco’s current licensing documentation, not necessarily FortisX’s customer agreement. Cisco’s provider ordering guide lists provider SKUs such as PRP-XDR-ESS and PRP-XDR-ADV, but does not publish public dollar pricing.
Alternatives to compare
- Cisco XDR Premier: A direct Cisco-managed option for organizations seeking Cisco-operated detection and response rather than a Sentinel-operated partner service. Compare scope, escalation, response authority and incident-response coverage.
- Another Cisco managed-service partner: Cisco lists other providers in its managed-service directory. Geography, analyst model, co-management, SLAs and integrations can differ; evaluate the specific written offer rather than assuming partners are equivalent.
- Customer-operated Cisco XDR: Essentials or Advantage may suit a staffed security team that wants direct control of tuning, playbooks and response. The customer retains responsibility for coverage, staffing and operations.
- Splunk-centered operations: Organizations already invested in Splunk may prefer to keep it as a primary analytics and investigation environment, using Cisco integrations selectively. Confirm licensing and implementation effort.
- Another vendor’s MDR/XDR: A buyer standardized on Microsoft, CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks or another ecosystem should compare telemetry coverage and operating fit, not just the XDR label.
For an apples-to-apples comparison, request quotes using the same user and endpoint counts, data sources, retention, response authority, severity-based SLAs, incident-response scope, data-residency requirements and contract term.
Pricing and availability
As of August 2026, the reviewed public materials do not disclose FortisX dollar pricing, minimum contract duration, minimum deployment size, guaranteed response times, customer counts or full geographic coverage. Treat availability and commercial scope as items to verify directly with Sentinel. A proposal should explain whether pricing varies with users, endpoints, telemetry volume, retention, integrations, response scope or other factors; no public source establishes a standard FortisX price.
