Keychain announced a $30 million Series B on August 19, 2025, and used the funding news to introduce KeychainOS, an AI-assisted operations platform for consumer packaged goods (CPG) manufacturers. Wellington Management led the round with existing investor BoxGroup; Keychain said the financing brought its total funding to $68 million. The strategic shift is as important as the raise: Keychain is moving beyond helping brands find manufacturing partners and into software intended to help manufacturers run day-to-day operations.
What Keychain announced
The company’s August 19, 2025 announcement bundled two developments: a $30 million Series B and the launch of KeychainOS. Wellington Management led the round, alongside existing investor BoxGroup and other returning investors. Keychain reported $68 million in total funding after the round. That total is the company’s reported cumulative financing, not its valuation, revenue, or remaining cash.
The raise followed a February 2025 announcement of a $5 million investment from Bright Pixel Capital, when Keychain said its total funding was $38 million. The Series B therefore backs a product expansion, not just the growth of the marketplace the company launched first.
From supplier discovery to factory operations
Keychain began as a search-and-discovery platform connecting CPG brands and retailers with manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, packaging companies, and other supply-chain partners. The marketplace gives the company relationships across parts of the industry that a new manufacturing-software vendor might have to build from scratch.

At the time of the funding announcement, Keychain said its platform had more than 20,000 brands and retailers and thousands of manufacturers, and handled more than $1 billion in monthly search-and-discovery volume. It also claimed use by eight of the top 10 U.S. retailers and seven of the top 10 CPG brands. These are company-reported platform figures; they do not establish that every named organization is a paying customer or uses KeychainOS.
Keychain’s current website presents different manufacturer-count claims: its homepage says 50,000-plus global CPG manufacturers, while its KeychainOS page says 26,000-plus manufacturers worldwide. The pages do not explain the difference, so the numbers should be treated as separate claims rather than combined into a single verified count.
What KeychainOS is designed to do
At launch, KeychainOS was described as a CPG-specific operations platform that started with food-safety compliance and audit documentation, with purchasing, inventory, and production planning among the broader rollout. Contemporary reporting distinguished that initial focus from the wider platform vision.

- Purchasing: Demand-based purchasing recommendations, purchase-order creation and approvals, order tracking, reconciliation, and vendor oversight.
- Inventory: Records for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods, with alerts for low stock, discrepancies, shortages, overages, and expiry concerns.
- Production planning and automation: Connecting purchasing, inventory, and production plans so a change in available inputs can inform what should be produced.
- Traceability: Linking incoming materials to finished goods and maintaining records that can support audits or investigations.
- Food safety and audits: Custom forms, document storage, certification records, approvals, and corrective-action workflows.
- Financial intelligence: Connecting operational information with financial insights.
- AI assistant and agents: Natural-language questions, reports, alerts, and assistance with operational workflows.
Those are capabilities Keychain markets today, not proof that every module was generally available at the August 2025 launch. Prospective customers should ask which functions are generally available, in pilot, or still planned, and whether a specific capability has been deployed in a comparable plant.
What “AI operating system” means—and does not mean
The label can make the product sound more autonomous than the public descriptions establish. The practical AI use cases are more specific: recommending what to buy and when, helping organize or retrieve compliance information, answering natural-language questions about operational data, generating alerts, and assisting with workflow actions such as purchase orders. Inventory records, approvals, production plans, and traceability logs are core software functions; they are not inherently AI.
Nothing in the public launch material demonstrates that KeychainOS independently runs a plant or makes safety-critical decisions without human review. Manufacturers still need qualified staff to verify records, investigate deviations, approve corrective actions, and oversee financially material purchasing or production decisions. AI recommendations also depend on good source data: inaccurate counts, missing supplier lead times, inconsistent units, or outdated bills of materials can lead to poor outputs.

CPG plants handle more than generic inventory and production orders. They may need to track ingredients by lot, manage recipes and bills of materials, control allergens, account for expiration dates and shelf life, document sanitation and audit steps, and trace each raw-material lot into finished goods. Co-manufacturing adds another layer: a brand may rely on outside facilities, while a manufacturer juggles multiple customers, packaging formats, retailer requirements, and production lines.

That complexity is the case for vertical software. If purchasing, inventory, production schedules, quality records, and traceability share accurate data, a supplier delay or ingredient shortage can be visible before it derails a run. But a platform’s sector-specific design does not by itself establish that it supports every product category, process, regulatory regime, or plant configuration a buyer needs.
Keychain’s ERP positioning needs a scope check
Keychain positions KeychainOS as a next-generation ERP or an alternative to legacy systems. In its announcement, the company contrasted its approach with systems such as Oracle, QAD, and Plex, which it said may require long implementations and additional products for CPG-specific workflows. That is Keychain’s positioning, not an independently demonstrated comparison of total cost, deployment time, or functionality.
The company has promoted deployment in days rather than months or years, but public material does not specify whether that means one module, a limited pilot, one site, or a full multi-site ERP replacement. A plant replacing financial, production, warehouse, quality, and EDI systems should expect a more involved project than a narrow compliance-workflow deployment.
For some manufacturers, the sensible first use may be as an operational layer alongside an existing ERP rather than an immediate replacement. Buyers should identify which system remains authoritative for the general ledger, item and supplier master data, inventory valuation, customer orders, production orders, quality records, and regulatory documentation. They should also establish whether integrations are native, API-based, file-based, or dependent on professional services.

Funding, hiring, and the business model
TechCrunch reported that Keychain planned to expand its India-based engineering, product-design, and analytics operation, growing the Gurugram team from roughly 35 to 70 and eventually around 100. Global headcount was reported at about 70 at the time. The capital is intended to support product development and AI capabilities, engineering and analytics hiring, North American growth, and the existing discovery marketplace.
KeychainOS does not have a public standard price list on the current product page; the site directs prospective buyers to request access or a demo. TechCrunch reported that enterprise customers paid roughly $10,000 to more than $100,000, and that the company cited average annual revenue of about $20,000 per manufacturer at that time. Those historical, company-attributed figures are not a KeychainOS quote or a current pricing schedule. Ask for module, facility, user, implementation, integration, data-migration, training, and support costs in a written proposal.

A buyer should test the product against real workflows, not just a polished demonstration. Useful questions include:

- Manufacturing fit: Can it handle your recipes, formulas, substitutions, rework, co-products, yield variance, and batch or process workflows? What changes across multiple plants, warehouses, entities, or currencies?
- Food safety and quality: Which standards and certifications are supported? Can you configure forms and approvals, document corrective and preventive actions, export audit trails, and run a realistic mock recall?
- Traceability: Demonstrate a raw-material lot used in multiple products, a mid-run packaging substitution, a held or reworked batch, and a recall spanning facilities. How does the system handle late data from a co-manufacturer?
- Purchasing and inventory: Does forecasting account for lead times, minimum order quantities, supplier reliability, expiry, quarantine, and production constraints? Can an AI-generated purchase order be reviewed and approved before submission?
- Integrations and exit: Which ERP, accounting, WMS, MES, QMS, EDI, laboratory, and retailer systems have live integrations? How is historical data migrated, and how can your records be exported if you leave?
- AI controls and confidentiality: Which actions require human approval? Can users inspect the data behind a recommendation? Is customer data used to train shared models? How are formulas, supplier terms, customer relationships, capacity, and performance data separated among platform participants?
- Commercial terms: Is pricing per site, module, user, transaction, or another measure? Are implementation, integrations, support, or storage additional? Is there a minimum contract, a pilot option, and a clear service-level commitment?
Adoption claims can indicate reach, but they do not prove reduced inventory costs, faster audits, better forecast accuracy, fewer stockouts, or a return on investment. Ask for references and measures from customers with a similar product mix and operating footprint, then define success criteria for a pilot.

Alternatives depend on the job to be done
KeychainOS is not the only route to manufacturing or food-safety software. The right comparison depends on whether a buyer needs a broad ERP, plant-floor execution, supplier compliance, or a focused quality system.
- Oracle offers broad ERP, finance, procurement, manufacturing, and supply-chain capabilities; it may suit organizations requiring extensive enterprise controls, with implementation scope to assess carefully.
- QAD is a manufacturing-oriented ERP alternative for complex industries, including consumer products.
- Plex emphasizes manufacturing operations and plant-floor visibility, making it relevant where execution and connected manufacturing are central.
- TraceGains focuses on supplier, ingredient, specification, compliance, and product-development workflows, and may complement rather than replace a core ERP.
- SafetyChain is relevant when food and beverage quality, compliance, and plant data are the priority.
- Zeymo targets manufacturing, distribution, purchasing, inventory, and accounting with more transparent website pricing; its advertised low-cost plans should not be assumed to match enterprise CPG scope.
- ChefOS focuses on recipes, costs, inventory, purchasing, and production, and may suit smaller food producers better than a complex multi-site manufacturer.
These products are not like-for-like substitutes. Compare the workflows, controls, integrations, implementation burden, and contract terms your operation actually requires.
What the funding does—and does not—prove
The Series B gives Keychain capital to expand its product and team, and the launch marks a substantial move from discovery into manufacturing operations software. Keychain’s existing network could be an advantage if it turns industry relationships and data into useful operational context. The same network makes data separation and confidentiality important buyer questions.
Public evidence supports the funding event, the product expansion, and Keychain’s stated capabilities and adoption claims. It does not establish that KeychainOS is a mature, universal ERP replacement, that every advertised module is broadly available, or that customers have achieved specific operational savings. Buyers should treat a demo as the start of diligence: validate the workflows with their own data, confirm deployment scope and integrations, and compare the complete commercial terms.
