Samsung is the stronger starting point for a premium, portable Windows laptop with an AMOLED display and useful Galaxy phone or tablet features. HP is the stronger starting point if you need more choice across budgets, gaming, business support, or configurations. Neither brand wins across the board: compare a Galaxy Book6 Pro with an HP OmniBook Ultra or X, not with an entry-level HP or an Omen gaming laptop.
This comparison focuses on U.S. models available in 2026. Prices, configurations, and promotions change frequently, so verify the exact model number and current terms before buying.

For a quick verdict: choose Samsung for the Galaxy ecosystem, a light premium design, or a specific AMOLED configuration. Choose HP for breadth, commercial models, gaming options, and more chances to find the ports, screen size, or service plan you need. Choose the exact laptop—not the logo—after checking its specifications.

Start with the right product families
“Samsung versus HP” is too broad to decide a purchase. The brands sell laptops for different jobs, and models within a single family can have different screens, processors, ports, and warranties.

Samsung Galaxy Book6
- Galaxy Book6: mainstream thin-and-light models.
- Galaxy Book6 Pro: premium productivity models in 14- and 16-inch classes, with selected Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays.
- Galaxy Book6 360: convertible models for touch, pen, and tablet-style use.
- Galaxy Book6 Ultra: higher-performance premium systems for demanding productivity and creative work.
Samsung announced U.S. availability on March 11, 2026, with launch starting prices of $1,599.99 for the Book6 Pro and $2,449.99 for the Book6 Ultra. Those are historical launch prices, not a promise of today’s price: configurations and promotions can differ. Check Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement and model comparison for the relevant configuration.
Galaxy Book5 and Book4 models may still be worth considering if discounted. Treat them as prior generations and compare their processor, display, memory, warranty, and price against a current Book6—not merely against the old launch price.
HP OmniBook, business, and gaming lines
- OmniBook 5 and 7: mainstream and upper-mainstream productivity choices.
- OmniBook X and X Flip: premium portable and convertible systems.
- OmniBook Ultra: high-end systems, including different Intel- and Snapdragon-based configurations.
- Omen and Victus: gaming laptops.
- EliteBook and ProBook: business-oriented models.
- ZBook: mobile workstations.
HP has been moving consumer models into OmniBook branding, so do not assume every current OmniBook occupies the same role as an older Envy or Spectre. HP’s current home-laptop store shows the range of families and configurations; business and gaming lines are separate choices, not direct substitutes for a thin-and-light OmniBook.
Displays: a Samsung strength, not a Samsung monopoly
Samsung’s premium Book6 Pro is the clearest fit if you specifically want the company’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. But not every Galaxy Book has an AMOLED screen, and HP sells OLED options too. For example, HP lists an OmniBook Ultra configuration with a 14-inch 2880 × 1800 OLED touchscreen, up to 120 Hz, 500 nits SDR and up to 1,100 nits HDR, with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. HP’s range also includes practical IPS panels and lower-cost OLED options. One OmniBook 5 14-inch specification lists a 2K OLED touchscreen, 300 nits, 0.2 ms response time, and 100% DCI-P3. Do not assume that panel, or any other panel, is standard throughout the family; check HP’s configuration specifications.
- OLED/AMOLED: deep blacks and high perceived contrast make it appealing for films and images. Glossy surfaces can reflect light; power use varies with what is on screen, and long static display of the same content is a consideration.
- IPS: often a sensible choice for office work and static interfaces. Efficiency and image quality still depend on the specific panel.
- Brightness: distinguish sustained SDR brightness from a short-term HDR peak. A high HDR number does not mean the entire screen stays that bright during ordinary work.
- Color: gamut coverage (such as DCI-P3) is not the same as color accuracy or factory calibration.
- Refresh rate: 120 Hz can make scrolling feel smoother and help compatible games; it may use more power than a lower-refresh setting.
- Touch and pen: useful for annotation and convertible use, but can bring extra reflections, cost, and weight. Confirm whether a compatible pen is included.
If you edit color-critical photos or video, look for independent measurements of brightness and color accuracy for the exact panel. A resolution or gamut claim alone is not a substitute.
Performance: compare the chip, cooling, and workload
Processor family names are not enough to predict speed. Power limits, cooling, memory configuration, firmware, and whether a laptop is plugged in all affect sustained performance. Compare like-priced models and, where possible, independent tests that include sustained CPU work, your creative application, GPU performance, fan noise, and battery operation.
Intel and AMD versus Snapdragon ARM
Intel- and AMD-based Samsung and HP laptops run on the x86 platform and are usually the safer starting point for software with specialized drivers, older peripherals, many games and anti-cheat systems, engineering tools, or virtualization workflows.

Snapdragon Windows laptops can be attractive for mobile productivity and battery-focused use, but Windows on ARM is not a universal compatibility guarantee. Some x86 apps run through emulation; particular drivers, plug-ins, VPN clients, peripherals, games, or virtualization tools may not work or may behave differently. Compatibility is application- and device-specific. Before buying an ARM model, check every essential app and peripheral with its vendor, especially for work or school.
AI labels and graphics
“AI PC” does not tell you how fast a laptop will edit video, run a game, or complete your daily work. NPU TOPS measure a kind of AI-processing capability, but the software must support that NPU; CPU and GPU performance matter for other tasks. HP advertises up to 50 trillion NPU operations per second for a listed OmniBook X configuration, while Samsung specifications vary by Book6 model. Those vendor figures do not establish equivalent real-world performance.
For gaming or GPU-heavy creative work, identify whether the exact SKU uses integrated or discrete graphics, then check GPU model, memory, power limits, cooling, and display refresh rate. HP Omen and Victus provide a wider gaming choice. The Galaxy Book6 Ultra may suit someone who wants more graphics capability in a premium portable Samsung system, but compare actual GPU tests rather than assuming it matches a gaming laptop.

A Tom’s Guide review measured 15 hours and 17 minutes for a particular Galaxy Book6 Pro in its continuous web-surfing test with the display set to 150 nits. That is an independent result for that configuration and method, not a guarantee for every Book6 Pro. See the review and test context.

HP, by contrast, lists up to 34 hours of local video playback for a selected OmniBook configuration under stated conditions. A local-video “up to” claim is not comparable to a web-browsing test. HP also lists fast charging on some OmniBook 5 configurations: 50% in 30 minutes for certain 14-inch models and 50% in 45 minutes for a listed 16-inch configuration. Check the exact 14-inch or 16-inch specifications.
Real runtime can shift substantially with screen type, brightness, refresh rate, video calls, external displays, browser workload, background syncing, processor platform, and Windows power mode. A laptop that lasts well on local video may deliver a different result in a day of meetings and browser tabs. Seek tests that resemble your work, and consider charger size and weight as part of travel portability.
Portability, build, and everyday ergonomics
Samsung positions Pro models around a slim, light design. Samsung’s June 2026 MSRP data lists a 16-inch Galaxy Book6 Pro configuration at about 3.44 pounds and 0.47 inches thick; check the precise configuration and regional listing before treating those dimensions as universal. HP also sells light premium models, while its gaming, business, and workstation machines may prioritize cooling, performance, service, or a different chassis.
HP says selected OmniBook X models were tested against 11 MIL-STD 810H tests. That is a manufacturer claim about selected models and test conditions—not proof that all HP laptops are more durable or that a given notebook is rugged. Thinness and metal construction likewise do not establish that a Samsung is more durable. For either brand, check the exact model and independent reviews for hinge stability, keyboard flex, screen glare, heat, and service access.

Do not decide on the word “premium” alone. Try the keyboard and touchpad if possible; check webcam resolution and Windows Hello support; and consider whether the hinge, touch screen, speakers, and fan behavior suit your routine. Include the charger in a travel-weight comparison. HP OmniBook Ultra observations such as keyboard feel or speaker quality are reviewer judgments, not universal facts; see the specific review for its context.

Port layouts differ even within a family. A Galaxy Book6 Pro review unit had two USB-C ports, HDMI, USB-A, and a headphone jack, but confirm the configuration on Samsung’s model comparison page. HP OmniBook 5 examples vary: one 14-inch series lists two USB-C ports and a headset jack, while another listed 14-inch configuration has Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, and a headset jack. A 16-inch configuration lists two USB-C and two USB-A ports plus HDMI 1.4b. Use the official specifications for the 14-inch, Thunderbolt 4 configuration, and 16-inch model you are considering.
- USB-C is not a complete specification. Check data speed, charging, display output, and whether the port supports Thunderbolt or USB4.
- Check HDMI version and the laptop’s supported external-display resolution and refresh rate, especially for multi-monitor setups.
- Do not assume a card reader is present. Photographers should confirm SD or microSD access.
- Verify the dock. Business users should confirm compatibility, power delivery, and the number and resolution of supported monitors before purchase.
Software and ecosystem
Samsung’s differentiator is most meaningful if you already use Galaxy devices. Samsung promotes Quick Share for file transfers and Second Screen for using a compatible Galaxy tablet as an additional display. Feature availability depends on compatible devices and software; check the Galaxy Book page and your phone or tablet’s requirements. These conveniences can make a Samsung laptop a better fit without making its processor faster.

Which brand fits your work?
- Galaxy phone or tablet owner: Start with a Galaxy Book6 Pro or 360 if Quick Share or Second Screen would be useful. Confirm compatibility with your specific devices.
- Display-focused traveler: Compare Book6 Pro against OmniBook Ultra or X. Weigh panel quality, measured brightness, weight with charger, battery test results, and ports—not just OLED labels.
- Business or managed deployment: Start with HP EliteBook-class systems and compare exact security, management, warranty, and docking requirements. A consumer OmniBook is not automatically a business fleet equivalent.
- Gamer: Start with HP Omen or Victus, then compare GPU, VRAM, cooling, power, screen refresh rate, and game compatibility. Consider Book6 Ultra only if portability and Samsung integration justify the trade-offs.
- Student on a budget: Compare current sale configurations from both brands. Prioritize at least 16 GB RAM for general 2026 use, enough storage for coursework and media, a comfortable screen, and a usable warranty. More demanding creative, development, or technical work may need 32 GB or more.
- Creator: For photo and video work, compare panel accuracy, RAM, SSD capacity, GPU and codec support, ports, and sustained performance in your actual applications. For CAD or workstation-certified software, examine HP ZBook and software requirements rather than relying on a brand-level verdict.
- Compatibility-sensitive user: Favor an Intel- or AMD-based SKU unless you have confirmed your required software, peripherals, and drivers work on the exact Snapdragon system.
- Convertible or note-taking buyer: Compare Galaxy Book6 360 with HP OmniBook X Flip. Check pen inclusion and protocol, charging, tablet weight, glare, hinge behavior, and whether you will use touch enough to justify it.
Warranty, repair, and ownership cost
Do not assume a brand-wide service experience from a single warranty headline. Warranty length is only one part of the decision: compare coverage exclusions, accidental-damage protection, pickup-and-return versus local repair, turnaround expectations, parts availability, and who handles support in your area.
Samsung’s referenced notebook MSRP sheets list a 365-day warranty for the cited SKUs; verify consumer terms for the exact model on its product page. HP’s listed OmniBook Ultra configuration shows a one-year standard warranty with optional two- and three-year pickup-and-return plans that can include accidental-damage protection. Terms vary by product and location; see the specific HP product listing.
Before paying extra for future flexibility, check the service manual or official specifications for soldered RAM, SSD replacement, available SSD slots, battery replacement, and genuine parts. Neither brand is automatically more upgradeable across all models. Soldered memory makes the initial RAM choice especially important; 512 GB storage may also feel tight for large games, creative projects, or virtual machines. A longer accidental-damage plan may be worth considering for an expensive OLED convertible or a laptop used heavily on the move, but compare its price and exclusions with your likely repair risk.

Final buying checklist
- Write down the exact model or SKU—not just “Galaxy Book” or “OmniBook.”
- Confirm processor platform (Intel, AMD, or Snapdragon) and check essential app, driver, and peripheral compatibility.
- Check GPU type and model for gaming, creative work, or CAD.
- Choose enough RAM and SSD capacity for the laptop’s expected life; check whether memory is soldered.
- Verify display type, resolution, sustained brightness, refresh rate, touch, pen support, and color needs.
- Count ports and check their actual standards, charging, display output, and dock support.
- Compare battery evidence using similar tests; include charger weight and charging speed.
- Read the warranty and service-plan terms for that SKU and country.
- Compare the current price, promotion conditions, return policy, and any older-generation alternative on the same date.
