Koodo’s $40-for-70GB phone-upgrade offer was reported on June 16, 2025, as a targeted promotion for selected existing customers—not a public plan available to everyone. It paired 70GB of data and unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting with a requirement to buy a phone through Koodo. The report does not establish that the offer is still available in 2026, or that $40 covers the complete bill. Check the offer in your Koodo account before deciding.
What Koodo’s reported offer included
In June 2025, selected Koodo customers received a promotional text advertising a plan for $40 per month for 70GB, with unlimited Canada-wide calling and texting. To redeem it, customers followed a special link in the message, selected Phone plans, chose a device and proceeded through checkout. The offer was reported as tied to buying a new phone through Koodo, rather than as a plan-only change.

MobileSyrup’s June 16, 2025 report describes the offer and redemption route. It does not establish the promotion’s expiry date, whether the $40 price was guaranteed for a particular term, which devices qualified, or whether the same deal was available in every province. Check the specific text, checkout screen and agreement for those terms. Do not assume the offer includes 5G, roaming, international calling or any other feature not listed there.

Is the offer still available?
The report is historical; it is not evidence that the offer remains open in 2026. Koodo says it periodically sends personalized offers to eligible customers, and some account-specific deals can appear under Self Serve > Mobile services > Change my plan. That does not confirm that this particular $40/70GB promotion is active.

Check the expiry date and terms in your original message or in the logged-in checkout flow. If the offer no longer appears, do not assume Koodo can recreate it by phone or that the public phone catalogue will show the same price. Koodo’s guidance on personalized promotional texts explains why customers may receive different offers.
Why you had to buy a phone—and what that can cost
The phone requirement matters because this was presented as a device-upgrade promotion, not simply a lower monthly service rate. Koodo’s Tab system spreads device costs over time, and plan eligibility can depend on the Tab option or promotion. A phone advertised with little or no upfront cost may still have monthly device payments or conditions attached.
Think of the advertised price as the plan component, not necessarily your bill total. A useful comparison is:

Your first bill may also include partial-period charges, while a change or early upgrade can bring existing device balances into the calculation. Koodo explains that a first bill can include a partial charge as well as the next full month; see its charges guide.
Do not count on a discount lowering the advertised $40 unless the terms for your account show it. Koodo says eligible customers may receive an auto-pay discount of up to $10 per month, but eligibility, timing and qualifying payment method vary. Check the current auto-pay rules and confirm whether the offer price already reflects any discount.

Check your Tab and Tab Bonus before upgrading
If you still owe money on your current phone, an upgrade could make the deal more expensive than the headline suggests. Koodo describes Tab balances as generally spread across 24 months. A Tab balance is the remaining financed amount; a Tab Bonus is a promotional device discount that declines during its term. If you upgrade early, cancel or switch to a plan that is ineligible for your arrangement, some or all of the outstanding balance may become payable. The exact consequences depend on your agreement.

For example, imagine a customer has a remaining device balance and an outstanding Tab Bonus. Those amounts are separate from the new plan’s $40 monthly charge. If an early upgrade triggers a payoff under that customer’s terms, the resulting bill can include that payoff along with the new phone’s payments. This is an illustration, not a prediction of what Koodo will charge any particular customer; use the balances and checkout terms shown in your account.

How to verify the message and redeem it safely
Koodo says its legitimate promotional texts begin with “Koodo:” and may come from short codes such as 5112, 5144, 5141 and 7798. Those clues can help, but a sender name or short code alone is not proof that a link is safe.
- Do not open a shortened, misspelled or otherwise suspicious link.
- Go to Koodo’s official website or app yourself and sign in to Self Serve.
- Check Mobile services > Change my plan for account-specific offers. If you use the text’s link, compare its terms with what is shown for your account.
- Follow the phone-upgrade route only if you intend to buy a device, and confirm that the 70GB plan appears before placing an order.
- Before accepting, record the plan price, price conditions, expiry date, device payment, applicable fees, auto-pay requirements and your existing Tab and Tab Bonus balances.
- Save the offer and agreement, then review your first bill for partial-period charges and device-balance adjustments.
If the offer is unclear or does not appear in your account, contact Koodo using its official support channels. Koodo’s promotion redemption guidance explains that promotions may require customer validation and an eligible plan.

The offer may be worth considering if you were already planning to replace your phone, your account displays the terms, and the combined plan and device cost compares favourably with what you pay now. It may also make sense if you need more data and your current Tab or Tab Bonus balance is low or paid off.

It is less compelling if you only want cheaper service, have a less expensive grandfathered plan, would take on a large phone payment, or would owe a substantial device balance to upgrade. Compare included features too: a new plan may not retain benefits such as roaming, international calling, a particular speed tier or a perk you rely on. The reported promotion does not establish those details.
Compare the total cost over the period you expect to keep the phone, not just $40 against your current plan. Include monthly device payments, any payoff on the old device, taxes and fees, and discounts only if you qualify for them. Koodo’s device-plan page and Tab information provide context, but may not show a personalized promotion.

Alternatives if you do not need a new phone
- Keep your current plan and buy an unlocked phone outright. This avoids taking a new device-financing arrangement, though it means paying more upfront. Compare the cost of the phone and your existing service over the same period.
- Check Self Serve for a plan-only offer. A separate account-specific offer may be available, but do not assume it will match the phone-purchase promotion.
- Compare other Canadian carriers and flanker brands. Review coverage, plan terms and any device financing alongside the total cost.
- Consider prepaid service. Koodo’s prepaid page lists a 70GB option at $39 per 30 days without automatic top-up at the time reflected in the available page. Prepaid is a different product and not an exact substitute for the reported postpaid upgrade deal; confirm its current terms directly at Koodo Prepaid.
