Bell’s “Bell Trade-In Deadline” promotion offered a minimum $500 trade-in value for a qualifying phone, but it was a one-day Bell Mobility offer—not a TSN subscription deal. It ran at Bell stores on March 6, 2026, and required customers to take a new device on a two-year Bell SmartPay term and a two-year Bell rate plan. The promotion has expired.
What Bell offered
Bell advertised a minimum $500 in trade-in value for a phone as part of its “Bell Trade-In Deadline” campaign. The phone had to be functional and able to turn on, and the promotion was available only at a Bell store. The value was tied to a qualifying new-device purchase; it was not an unrestricted cash payment for handing over any phone. MobileSyrup’s report on the offer describes the reported conditions.
“Any phone” should not be read as “any condition.” A phone that would not power on did not meet the stated basic requirement. The reporting does not establish all other eligibility rules—for example, how Bell treated cracked screens, water damage, activation locks, or account locks—so those details would have depended on Bell’s terms and in-store assessment.
The two-year commitment mattered
To receive the promotion, customers had to get a new device on a two-year Bell SmartPay financing term and take a two-year Bell rate plan. That makes the $500 headline only one part of the financial decision. The deal was not simply a trade-in that could be separated from the phone purchase and service commitment.

Before accepting an offer like this, compare the total cost of the phone and service over 24 months with the alternatives: buying an unlocked phone and choosing a lower-cost plan, keeping your current phone, or selling the old device privately. A large trade-in credit can still leave a customer worse off if the required plan or financing costs more than the alternative. The available reporting does not provide enough plan, device, tax, or account details to determine whether the offer was cheaper for every customer.
Questions to ask before trading in a phone
- How is the trade-in value applied—up front, as monthly credits, or against the device balance?
- Which new phones and rate plans qualify, and what is the total cost across the full 24 months?
- How are taxes calculated, and what happens to the credit if you cancel, change plans, or pay off the device early?
- Does the old phone need to be unlocked or free of an account lock, and what device damage is acceptable?
- Can existing Bell customers qualify, and are there account-specific restrictions?
- How should you back up and erase personal data before surrendering the phone?
The campaign reports do not settle those detailed terms. For a future promotion, get the applicable terms in writing and confirm the exact credit and total monthly charges before handing over a device.

How TSN was involved
This was a Bell Mobility promotion built around TSN’s NHL Trade Deadline coverage, not an offer from TSN for a subscription or access to programming. TSN brands its deadline coverage TRADECENTRE; Bell Media describes the coverage as a full-day broadcast and digital event.
Bell and creative agency Leo Toronto used short “breaking news” spots filmed on the TSN set, with TSN personality Cheryl Pounder presenting phone trades in the style of deadline coverage. The hockey framing gave an ordinary device upgrade the urgency of a roster move; it did not change the underlying requirement to buy a phone and commit to Bell service. Is the promotion still available?
No. The offer ran on March 6, 2026 only, so it is no longer redeemable. Any Bell trade-in deal available now would be a separate promotion with its own dates, eligible devices, financing conditions, and plan requirements. Check Bell’s Mobility and phone pages for current offers rather than relying on the expired Trade-In Deadline campaign.
If comparing other routes for a future upgrade, private resale or a manufacturer trade-in may be worth checking, but their current values and terms vary by device and purchase. Apple Trade In is relevant when buying an iPhone; Samsung’s Canadian site provides information for Galaxy buyers at Samsung Canada. Neither is a confirmed substitute for Bell’s expired offer.
