These details come from published coverage of customer reports, not a publicly accessible official terms page for this exact campaign. Confirm the terms shown in your own account before accepting. The available reporting does not establish whether taxes were extra, whether autopay was required, whether the $40 price was permanent, how unused data was handled, or what speed and hotspot rules applied after the 150GB allotment.

Do not interpret “unlimited” as unlimited high-speed data. The reported plan had a finite 150GB data allowance, and the evidence does not fully specify network-management or fair-use policies.

Was the text legitimate?
The promotion was reported by multiple customers and Canadian telecom outlets, and it was associated with Public Mobile, a Telus-owned brand. Its limited distribution does not by itself make it fraudulent. Some customers received the $40 version by SMS, while others reportedly saw a comparable $45 offer in the Public Mobile app.
Still, verify the offer without relying on the message’s link:
- Open the Public Mobile app or type the official website address yourself: publicmobile.ca.
- Sign in and look for the offer under your account, plan or promotions area.
- Compare the displayed price, data, countries and effective date with the text.
- Do not provide a password, one-time code or banking details in response to an unsolicited message.
- Avoid links using unfamiliar domains, unusual shortened URLs or payment instructions outside the normal Public Mobile checkout flow.
If the promotion is not visible after signing in, contact Public Mobile through its official support channels. Another customer’s screenshot does not prove that your line is eligible.

Who qualified?
The strongest evidence points to a targeted retention or account promotion for selected existing Public Mobile customers. It was not presented as a generally available new-customer plan. Eligibility may have depended on account history, location or campaign targeting.
Keep these possibilities separate:
- Exact $40 SMS offer: available only to customers whose account received it.
- $45 in-app version: some existing customers reportedly saw a similar 150GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico offer at a different price.
- New customers: there is no evidence that signing up, using a referral code or asking support automatically unlocked the SMS promotion.
How to activate it safely
Coverage of the campaign said recipients could reply to the promotional text. If your account still presents the offer, use the activation instructions shown in the authenticated Public Mobile flow rather than assuming an old text remains valid.
- Review the plan name, monthly price, data allotment and Canada/U.S./Mexico coverage.
- Check whether the change starts immediately or at your next renewal.
- Look for any taxes, automatic-payment requirement, temporary-discount language or plan-change restrictions.
- Save screenshots of the acceptance page and confirmation message.
- After activation, inspect your subscription and next scheduled payment to ensure the $40 price is recorded.
Do not cancel your existing plan first. A plan change could replace a cheaper grandfathered plan, remove a discount or affect benefits such as Public Points. The available reporting does not confirm whether customers could return to their former plan.

Is the offer still available?
The reported deadline was April 23, 2026. As of August 18, 2026, the April campaign should be considered expired unless a valid version remains visible in your logged-in account or Public Mobile confirms it directly. Public Mobile changed its lineup several times afterward, so search results, forum posts and screenshots may describe plans that are no longer offered.
Do not describe this as a currently open $40/150GB public plan without account-level confirmation.
Should you switch?
The headline data amount is only part of the value. The plan was most attractive to people who regularly use service in the United States or Mexico and would otherwise pay for roaming or maintain a separate travel solution.

Switching may make sense if:
- The offer is displayed in your authenticated account.
- You frequently travel between Canada and the U.S. or Mexico.
- $40 is less than your current equivalent roaming-inclusive cost.
- You have confirmed the renewal price and effective date.
- Your existing plan has less data or lacks Mexico access.
Keeping your current plan may be better if:
- You pay less than $40.
- Your current plan already includes comparable Canada-U.S.-Mexico service.
- You hold a grandfathered feature or discount that could disappear.
- You rarely leave Canada or use little data.
- The offer’s billing and return-to-previous-plan terms are unclear.
Before accepting, ask Public Mobile or verify in writing: Is $40 before or after taxes? Does it renew at $40? Is 150GB shared across all three countries? Are calls and texts between those countries included? Does the plan permit hotspot use, and what happens if you change plans later?

The offer appeared during rapid promotional changes:
- In February, MobileSyrup reported limited-time $40/100GB and $50/150GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico plans: February coverage.
- In March, Public Mobile reportedly offered $40/150GB and $50/250GB plans for a short period ending March 16: March coverage.
- Later reporting described a $45/150GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico option and other revised plans: June coverage. A Canada Day report also cited a $45/150GB plan: Canada Day coverage.
The later $45 plan may be the closest comparison for people who did not receive the April text, but check the live offerings at Public Mobile’s official plans page.

Alternatives to check
Freedom Mobile: Freedom has competed in the Canada-U.S.-Mexico high-data segment. Historical reports cited $39/70GB, $40/100GB and $50/150GB offers, plus a later $40/250GB promotion. Those prices were time-sensitive and should not be treated as current; check Freedom’s official site for live terms and coverage.
Koodo: A Koodo community discussion described an account-specific $40/150GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico migration offer for one Public Mobile customer, potentially involving Happy Tab Lite or other postpaid conditions. It is not evidence of a broadly available equivalent. Review Koodo’s official site and the complete migration terms before switching.
Bottom line for shoppers
The $40/150GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico text promotion was a compelling targeted deal for eligible cross-border users, but it was not a normal public plan and its reported April 23, 2026 deadline has passed. Treat it as available only when the exact offer appears in your own Public Mobile account and the displayed price, renewal behavior and roaming terms are clear. Otherwise, compare the current official Public Mobile lineup with Freedom and any account-specific Koodo offer, while protecting a cheaper or grandfathered plan.
