Short answer: Bee announced in July 2025 that it was joining Amazon. Amazon confirmed plans to acquire the AI-wearables startup but said the transaction had not yet closed at the time of the initial report. Later statements from Bee indicated that the deal was completed. Neither company publicly disclosed a purchase price, and there is still no verified announcement of an Amazon-branded Bee device or a full Alexa integration.
What Amazon acquired
Bee was a San Francisco AI-wearables startup founded in 2022. Its main product was a small wrist-worn device resembling a basic fitness tracker, supported by an Apple Watch app and companion software.
The concept was more ambitious than a conventional voice recorder. Bee was designed to listen to surrounding conversations, transcribe them, and turn them into summaries, reminders, to-do items and daily insights. Users could ask questions about captured conversations through the app. Connecting email, contacts, calendars, location, reminders and photos gave the assistant more context about the user’s life.

TechCrunch also reported that Bee had raised $7 million in the prior year; that funding figure does not reveal the acquisition value.

Acquisition timeline: announcement versus closing
- July 22, 2025: Bee co-founder and CEO Maria de Lourdes Zollo announced that Bee was joining Amazon.
- That same day: Amazon confirmed its plans to acquire Bee to TechCrunch, while saying the transaction had not yet closed.
- Afterward: Bee’s website reportedly carried a notice saying the company was joining Amazon.
- Later statements: Zollo described the acquisition as completed, and reports said Bee employees received offers to join Amazon.
The clearest wording is therefore: Amazon announced plans to acquire Bee in July 2025, and subsequent company statements indicated that the transaction was completed. Public coverage reviewed for this article does not provide disclosed financial terms or a detailed Amazon transaction announcement.
Why Amazon might want Bee
Amazon has extensive experience with voice assistants and connected devices, but Bee points toward a different kind of assistant: wearable, mobile and ambient rather than anchored to a speaker in the home.

These are strategic interpretations, not confirmed Amazon product plans. The acquisition alone does not prove that Amazon is building an Alexa wearable, will keep the Bee brand, or will launch a new consumer device.
What happens to Bee customers?
The practical consequences remain unclear. The available reporting does not establish whether hardware sales continued, whether subscriptions stayed active on the same terms, or whether the Apple Watch app remained available.

Existing users also need answers about:
- Migration of accounts and personal data into Amazon systems
- Data export and deletion options
- Subscription cancellations, refunds and customer support
- Whether Bee hardware will be supported, redesigned or discontinued
- Whether previously published privacy commitments remain unchanged
Do not assume that buying or subscribing to Bee is currently possible. The reported 2025 prices should be treated as historical unless an official, current sales page confirms otherwise.
The privacy issue is bigger than “does it record?”
Bee’s value depended on continuous or near-continuous listening in everyday settings. That creates privacy questions for the owner and for everyone nearby whose voice may be captured.

Bee reportedly said that users could delete their data and that raw audio recordings were not saved, stored or used to train its AI. It also said the service retained information learned about the user so the assistant could work. Bee had discussed obtaining verbal consent from people whose voices were captured, adding controls that could pause learning by topic or location, and eventually moving more processing on-device.
Those statements describe Bee’s pre-acquisition position. They should not automatically be treated as Amazon’s continuing policy. The important distinction is among:

- Raw audio: the original sound captured by the microphone
- Transcripts: text generated from conversations
- Summaries and tasks: AI-generated outputs that may contain sensitive details
- Derived profiles: facts or inferences the system retains about a user
Deleting raw audio would not necessarily delete transcripts, summaries or learned profiles. After an acquisition, users should look for clear answers on retention periods, model training, third-party AI providers, export rights, deletion of derived data and how non-users can object to or remove their voice data.
Workplaces, schools, clinics and legal offices face additional confidentiality and consent requirements. A visible recording indicator and a physical mute control can reduce risk, but they do not eliminate the need to follow local law and organizational policy.

Apple AI wearables remain a rumor category unless and until Apple announces a product. None of these comparisons establishes what Amazon will do with Bee.

What to check before using any Bee-like product
- Recording controls: Look for a physical mute switch, a visible status indicator and location or topic controls.
- Data lifecycle: Confirm whether audio, transcripts, summaries and inferred facts can each be deleted and exported.
- Consent rules: Check workplace, school, medical and state recording laws before capturing other people.
- Processing: Find out what runs on-device, what goes to the cloud and whether outside AI providers receive the data.
- Accuracy: Test how the system handles accents, background noise, multiple speakers and attribution. Incorrect summaries can create false reminders or embarrassing actions.
- Subscription risk: Determine how useful the hardware remains if the paid plan ends or the service shuts down.
The financial and consumer takeaway
For Amazon, Bee is potentially a relatively small acquisition with a large strategic idea: a personal assistant that travels with the user and builds an ongoing memory of daily life. For consumers, however, the value depends on trust as much as convenience.
There is no verified acquisition price, no confirmed Amazon-branded Bee launch and no established post-acquisition privacy policy in the reported material. Existing or prospective users should wait for official information about product availability, subscriptions, support and data handling before treating Bee as a current purchase option.
