Bell’s Boxing Day 2024 promotions were genuine, but the headline prices were easy to misunderstand. Bell advertised a 200GB 5G bring-your-own-device plan for $55 per month, including an autopay credit, and an iPhone 15 device payment of $10 per month under a two-year financing and device-return arrangement.
That did not mean an iPhone 15 plus wireless service cost $10 monthly. The advertised plan-and-phone subtotal was approximately $65 per month before taxes, fees, optional protection and any deferred phone balance. The promotion was time-limited and is expired; current Bell pages should not be treated as proof that the December 2024 offer remains available.

The two Bell offers advertised on December 26, 2024

The historical figures were reported by MobileSyrup and corroborated in contemporary comparison coverage from iPhone in Canada. Because the original Bell promotion page is no longer available as a fixed, accessible offer document, individual eligibility and exact agreement terms could have varied by province, customer type and sales channel.

What changed from Bell’s earlier Boxing Week pricing?
Contemporary coverage described the $55 Bell plan as an improvement from 100GB to 200GB without increasing the advertised price. The iPhone 15 device payment also fell from $15 to $10 per month.

Bell’s other reported Boxing Day device and plan offers included an iPhone 16 at $12 per month, the Galaxy S24 at $1 per month and the Pixel 9 at $1 per month under comparable financing arrangements. Those figures were promotional device payments, not complete wireless bills.
Was $55 Bell’s regular plan price?
Not necessarily. The reported $55 price included a $10 monthly autopay credit. A customer who did not meet the autopay requirement could have faced a higher effective price. Additional conditions may also have applied to activation method, plan eligibility, existing-customer status or Bell home-service bundling.
Bell home-internet customers could qualify for additional bundle savings, but the exact discount should not be assumed. It would have depended on the customer’s specific account and offer terms.
What did the $55/200GB plan include?
The $55 offer should be understood as the reported Bell 5G plan, not as Bell’s North American roaming plan. The separate $70 offer was the one reported as a 200GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico plan with broader geographic coverage and international minutes.

The available historical reporting does not establish every detail of the $55 plan’s original agreement. Before accepting a comparable offer, a customer should confirm:
- Whether the data was Canada-only or included U.S. and Mexican usage.
- Whether video streaming was subject to standard-definition limits.
- Whether hotspot or tethering was included and subject to a separate allowance.
- Whether calling and texting were Canada-wide.
- Whether data speeds were reduced after a threshold or subject to fair-use rules.
- Whether the plan was available to new activations, existing customers, BYOD customers or financed-device customers.
- Whether the $55 price required autopay, a bundle or another recurring credit.
In other words, 200GB describes the data allowance, not necessarily the plan’s roaming, streaming or network-management terms.
What did “iPhone 15 for $10/month” really mean?
The $10 figure was the monthly device-financing amount. It was not the total monthly bill and did not include the wireless plan.

For the historical $10 promotion, the exact deferred amount required to keep the iPhone 15 is not available in the accessible deal reporting or current Bell pages. It should not be invented or inferred from the $10 monthly figure.
A realistic advertised subtotal would therefore have been:
- $55 per month for the wireless plan;
- $10 per month for the iPhone 15 device payment;
- $65 per month before taxes and other charges.
Taxes on the device payments, a possible one-time activation or device-handling charge, optional Smart/Phone Care and any applicable plan charges could increase the bill. Bell’s current iPhone 15 page illustrates Bell’s general billing disclosures, but it does not prove the exact terms of the 2024 promotion.

Under Bell’s standard Device Return Option or Flex-style framework, the customer generally had two choices at the end of the term:

- Return the phone in the condition required by Bell and avoid paying the deferred amount.
- Keep the phone and pay the deferred balance, either as a lump sum or through interest-free payments where the agreement allowed it.
The exact outcome depended on the signed service agreement. The $10 monthly payments alone did not guarantee ownership of the phone at the end of 24 months.
Return-condition requirements
Bell’s published equipment-return criteria generally require the phone to:
- Power on and reach the home screen.
- Have a working touchscreen and keyboard.
- Be free of prohibited visible damage such as cracks, chips, bending or missing parts.
- Include required components.
- Have passcodes and security locks removed.
- Have Find My iPhone Activation Lock and other activation locks disabled.
A phone that fails inspection may be treated as ineligible for return, leaving the customer responsible for the deferred amount. Bell says Smart/Phone Care may allow certain damaged devices to be returned in some provinces, but Manitoba and Saskatchewan have separate eligibility limitations. Customers should check the applicable provincial and agreement terms rather than assume that insurance makes every damaged phone returnable.

What if you cancel early or change plans?
Leaving Bell before the two-year term can make the remaining device payments due. Depending on the agreement, the deferred amount and lost promotional credits may also affect the final bill. Moving to a rate plan that is not eligible for the device promotion can likewise trigger charges or remove credits.

Bell’s explanations of the Device Return Option and Flex Option describe these general mechanics. The practical lesson is simple: do not compare the $10 payment with an unlocked phone’s price unless you also check the early-cancellation and end-of-term amounts in the customer agreement.
Was the deal good value?
Reasons it could have been attractive
- 200GB is a substantial allowance for heavy mobile-data users.
- $55 was a competitive headline price for a national Canadian carrier in December 2024.
- The $10 device payment reduced the monthly cost of obtaining an iPhone 15.
- Bell customers with strong local coverage could benefit from staying on Bell.
- Bell home-internet customers might have qualified for additional bundle savings.
Reasons to be cautious
- The $55 price depended on an autopay credit and possibly other eligibility conditions.
- The iPhone payment was not the full wireless bill or necessarily the full cost of owning the phone.
- Keeping the phone could require payment of an undisclosed deferred balance.
- Early cancellation or an ineligible plan change could accelerate payments.
- The $55 plan should not be confused with the $70 Canada-U.S.-Mexico plan.
- Taxes, handling fees and optional protection could materially change the total cost.
How Bell compared with alternatives in December 2024
Contemporary comparison coverage reported Telus BYOD plans around $60 for 200GB, $70 for 200GB and $80 for 200GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico service. On that December 2024 snapshot, Bell’s reported $55/200GB headline price was among the lower major-carrier offers.
That comparison is historical, not a current market ranking. Prices, credits and data allowances change frequently. Rogers, Telus and lower-cost carriers may be better choices depending on coverage, roaming, data priority, customer service and device financing. A cheaper BYOD carrier can also be more economical for someone who already owns a compatible phone.
Who would have been a good fit?
The offer made the most sense for a heavy data user who:
- Could maintain the autopay requirement;
- Had reliable Bell coverage at home, work and common travel locations;
- Was comfortable with a 24-month agreement;
- Understood the return-or-keep decision;
- Planned to remain with Bell for the full term; and
- Did not need U.S. or Mexican roaming on the $55 plan.
It was a weaker fit for someone who changes carriers frequently, wants to own a phone without an end-of-term obligation, needs North American service or can obtain a much cheaper BYOD plan elsewhere.
