Short answer: The iPad mini 7 did reach $399 during a June 24, 2026 Prime Day promotion, but that price should not be treated as a live deal now. Later retailer snapshots showed new units at higher prices, so check the final checkout total before buying.
The $399 iPad mini deal was real—but temporary
Coverage from AppleInsider and Macworld documented a Prime Day promotion on June 24, 2026, when the iPad mini (A17 Pro) fell to $399 or $399.99, depending on the retailer’s display.
That promotion was not a permanent price cut. The available later snapshots showed Apple listing the tablet from $599 and Best Buy showing new 128GB Wi‑Fi stock at $549. Best Buy also showed a refurbished unit at $329.99. Those figures are useful comparisons, but retailer prices, inventory and conditions can change.

The $399 offer did not mean every iPad mini qualified. It excluded the cellular version and higher-capacity models. Before ordering, confirm that the product page identifies the A17 Pro generation, lists 128GB storage, says Wi‑Fi rather than Wi‑Fi + Cellular, and clearly labels the unit as new.
What to check before calling it a deal
- Seller: Confirm whether the item is sold directly by the retailer or by a marketplace seller.
- Condition: Make sure “new” has not been replaced by refurbished or open-box language.

According to Apple’s specifications, the mini has a 2266-by-1488 Liquid Retina display at 326 pixels per inch, P3 wide color, True Tone, full lamination, an antireflective coating and up to 500 nits of brightness. It weighs 293 grams in the Wi‑Fi configuration and is 6.3mm thick.

The same compact design that makes the mini convenient creates its biggest compromises. An 8.3-inch display gives you less room for split-screen multitasking, document editing and onscreen typing. Consider a larger iPad if you frequently:

Also think carefully about storage. The $399 model has 128GB, which is reasonable for reading, streaming and ordinary apps, but large games, downloaded video, photos and creative files can consume it quickly. Buyers who need more room should price the 256GB model rather than assuming the deal applies to every capacity.

New versus refurbished: which is better value?
A new iPad mini at $399 is the straightforward choice: you get the exact promotional configuration without accepting unknown cosmetic wear or battery history. If the new price is closer to the later $549 Best Buy snapshot, a reputable refurbished unit may offer better value.
Best Buy’s documented snapshot showed a Geek Squad Certified Refurbished 128GB Wi‑Fi iPad mini at $329.99. That is substantially below the historical new-device deal, but it is not the same product condition. Check the warranty, return period, cosmetic grading and any available information about battery condition before buying. Do not place a refurbished or open-box price in the same deal category as factory-new stock.
An older sixth-generation iPad mini may also be cheaper, but compare battery health, storage, software support and warranty. A low sticker price is not automatically a better purchase than the A17 Pro model.

Remember the accessories
The tablet does not include an Apple Pencil Pro, keyboard or protective case. Apple Pencil Pro is compatible and relevant for drawing, notes and markup, but it is an additional purchase. AppleInsider reported a temporary $99 Pencil Pro price during the June promotion versus a cited $129 comparison price; that was also a historical offer, not a current guarantee.
A case and screen protector may be sensible for a travel device, while a Bluetooth keyboard or USB-C hub is optional. Adding accessories can materially increase the total cost, but you should not buy them simply to justify the tablet. A keyboard is particularly difficult to recommend if portability is the reason you chose the mini.
Should you buy now or wait?
Buy now at $399 if:
- The listing is for a new iPad mini (A17 Pro), 128GB, Wi‑Fi model.
- The seller is a major retailer or otherwise provides clear warranty and return terms.
- You specifically want the mini’s compact form factor.
- 128GB is enough for your apps, games and downloads.
- You do not need cellular connectivity.
Wait if:
- The price is $499 or higher and you are not in a hurry.
- The listing is unclear about the seller, condition or warranty.
- You need 256GB storage or a cellular connection.
- A major shopping event is approaching.
- A refurbished or open-box unit costs nearly as much as new stock.
Choose refurbished if:
The price is meaningfully below new inventory—closer to the documented $329.99 snapshot than to a new-device price—and the retailer offers a clear return window and warranty. This is the best route for shoppers prioritizing savings over factory-sealed packaging and a pristine-condition guarantee.
Alternatives worth considering
A base iPad may be a better choice if you want a larger screen at a lower entry price. Apple’s current product information identifies the base model with an A16 chip and no Apple Intelligence support, so the trade-off is larger-screen value versus the mini’s portability and A17 Pro platform.
An iPad Air is better suited to larger-screen productivity, drawing and keyboard use, but it costs more and is less convenient to carry. The right choice depends on whether your priority is workspace or portability—not simply which model has the faster-sounding specification.
