Yes—but the headline is outdated. Dustin Moskovitz retired from his roles as Asana’s president and chief executive officer on July 21, 2025. Dan Rogers succeeded him as CEO. Moskovitz did not leave Asana entirely: he remains the company’s co-founder, board chair and a non-employee director.
The original succession plan was announced on March 10, 2025, while Moskovitz remained CEO during the search for a successor.

Did Dustin Moskovitz retire from Asana?
He retired from Asana’s operating leadership, not from the company altogether. Moskovitz stopped serving as president and CEO and became a non-employee director and chair of Asana’s board.

That distinction matters. A CEO runs the company’s day-to-day operations and is responsible for executing its strategy. A board chair leads the board’s oversight and governance work. Although Moskovitz can continue to influence major strategic decisions as chair and co-founder, he is no longer Asana’s chief executive.
Asana’s current leadership page lists Dan Rogers as chief executive officer and Moskovitz as board chair and co-founder.
Who is Dan Rogers?
Dan Rogers is Asana’s CEO and joined the company from LaunchDarkly. In announcing his appointment, Asana said Rogers had served as LaunchDarkly’s CEO since 2023. Rogers was appointed to Asana’s board at the same time he became CEO, effective July 21, 2025.

The change represents a move from founder-led operational management to a successor with experience running another enterprise software company. Whether that produces a material change in Asana’s strategy or execution is something investors and customers will need to assess over time; the succession announcement itself does not establish a specific performance outcome.
What is Moskovitz doing now?
Moskovitz remains:
- Asana’s board chair;
- a non-employee director;
- the company’s co-founder; and
- a continuing source of strategic guidance.
In the March 2025 announcement, Asana said Moskovitz would continue contributing to product vision, strategic guidance and the company’s artificial-intelligence initiatives. That statement supports continued strategic involvement, but it does not establish that he manages Asana’s daily operations or has executive authority.
Asana also said Moskovitz intended to maintain his shareholdings. That describes his stated intention at the time of the announcement; it should not be treated as confirmation of his precise ownership percentage in 2026 or as proof that no later transactions occurred.

Why did Moskovitz step down?
The available first-party materials describe a planned succession. Moskovitz informed Asana’s board of his intention to transition from CEO to board chair, and the company framed the change as preparation for its next phase of growth, profitability, innovation and AI development.
Those statements do not prove that the decision was caused by weak financial results, pressure from shareholders, a board dispute, health issues or disagreements over AI strategy. None of those explanations should be presented as established fact without additional evidence.

- Moskovitz stopped serving as president and CEO.
- Moskovitz transitioned to a non-employee director and board chair.
- Operational authority shifted from Moskovitz to Rogers.
What the succession does not establish
- That Moskovitz left Asana entirely.
- That Asana was sold or handed over completely.
- That the company’s products, pricing or customer contracts changed.
- That customers must migrate data, cancel accounts or take another immediate action.
- That Moskovitz sold his Asana shares.
For Asana customers, the documented event is a corporate leadership change. The cited materials do not indicate a product shutdown, required migration, account-data risk, contract change or immediate change to service availability.

What does the change mean for investors?
For investors, the important distinction is between founder influence and executive control. Moskovitz remains influential as board chair and a major company founder, but Rogers is responsible for leading Asana as CEO.
A founder moving to the chair role can provide continuity while allowing a new executive to manage operations. It can also reduce the founder’s direct operational role. Those are reasonable governance interpretations, not conclusions established by Asana’s announcement.

Asana’s 2026 proxy statement confirms that Moskovitz’s last day as president and CEO was July 21, 2025. It also says he received no separation benefits in connection with his resignation as president and CEO and reports $1 in fiscal 2026 compensation under the former executive arrangement. That should not be confused with a claim that he receives no compensation at all: as a non-employee director, he may be eligible for compensation under Asana’s director policy.

The proxy’s disclosures also do not establish Moskovitz’s current ownership percentage. Investors seeking that figure should consult the latest beneficial-ownership filings rather than rely on the March 2025 statement about his intention to maintain his holdings.

Dustin Moskovitz did retire as Asana’s president and CEO—but the retirement was completed on July 21, 2025, not merely planned for the future. Dan Rogers is now Asana’s CEO, while Moskovitz remains the company’s co-founder, board chair and non-employee director.
