Linear announced on June 10, 2025, that it had raised $82 million in Series C funding at a reported $1.25 billion valuation. Accel led the round, which included existing investors Sequoia and 01A, along with new and participating investors including Seven Seven Six, Designer Fund, Indie.vc, TK Ventures, Soleio, Jeff Weinstein, Ilkka Paananen, and Lauren and Vlad Loktev.
The financing was a milestone for a focused software company increasingly positioned as a competitor to Atlassian’s Jira. It was also a strategic bet on Linear’s plans to expand into larger enterprises and build AI-assisted workflows for product and engineering teams. Because the announcement occurred in 2025, this is a historical funding event—not a new financing announcement in August 2026.
What Linear’s Series C included
| Item | Reported detail |
|---|---|
| Announcement date | June 10, 2025 |
| Round | Series C |
| Amount | $82 million; Forge lists approximately $82.25 million |
| Reported valuation | $1.25 billion |
| Lead investor | Accel |
| Existing investors | Sequoia and 01A |
| Funding structure | Primary and secondary funding |
Linear’s announcement said the round included both primary and secondary funding. That distinction matters: the headline amount should not automatically be treated as $82 million of new operating cash. Primary proceeds go to the company, while secondary transactions generally provide liquidity to existing shareholders.

Contemporary reporting put Linear’s cumulative funding after the round at approximately $134.2 million. Forge’s private-market data estimates approximately $134.44 million in total funding and approximately $82.25 million for the Series C. The difference is consistent with rounding or differences in how private transactions and secondary proceeds are recorded.
#1 Best Overall
The $1.25 billion figure is a private financing valuation reported by the company and investors. It is not a public-market capitalization, and it does not mean that Linear has the same revenue, customer scale, or enterprise penetration as Atlassian.
Accel described Linear as growing more than 100% year over year and operating profitably. Those are company- and investor-reported claims rather than audited public-company results. Reuters separately reported that Linear’s profits grew 280% in the prior year, but the available report does not identify the precise profit measure, so that figure should not be interpreted as a verified net-profit or operating-margin statistic.
What Linear actually does
Linear is software for product and engineering organizations. Its core use cases include bug and issue tracking, feature requests, product planning, projects, cycles, initiatives, triage, and coordination between product managers, designers, and developers.

The company has also described a broader AI direction. Its planned and developing workflows include helping users create issues, automatically categorizing and routing incoming work, summarizing customer feedback, identifying patterns, and coordinating AI agents alongside human teams. Linear’s announcement presents these as part of its product direction; readers should not assume that every capability mentioned in the 2025 announcement was generally available at that time or remains identical in 2026.

Linear’s own About page describes the company as founded in 2019 and serving more than 37,000 companies as of the page’s current claim. That figure should be kept separate from the more than 15,000 companies Linear cited around the Series C announcement.
Why Jira is the comparison point
“Atlassian rival” is shorthand. Linear’s strongest direct comparison is with Jira and related Atlassian product-development workflows, not necessarily with every product in Atlassian’s portfolio.
Jira is broad and highly configurable. It supports extensive workflow customization, automation, planning, reporting, integrations, issue hierarchies, enterprise administration, security controls, and connections across the Atlassian platform. That breadth is valuable for organizations with complex processes or multiple business functions, but it can also require more configuration and administration.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchLinear takes a more opinionated approach centered on software-product development. Its positioning emphasizes structured defaults, fast issue handling, interface consistency, cycles, projects, and focused product workflows. CEO Karri Saarinen contrasted that model with more customizable systems that can become cumbersome for users. That is a company positioning claim, not independent proof that Linear is universally better than Jira.
Rank #3
The practical choice depends on the organization:
- Linear may fit better when a product and engineering team values speed, minimal process overhead, structured defaults, and integrated planning and triage.
- Jira may fit better when an organization needs extensive customization, broad integrations, mature enterprise administration, multiple Atlassian products, or workflows shared across many departments.
Linear also provides Jira integration documentation and a pilot and migration guide, reflecting the fact that switching systems involves more than comparing interfaces or subscription prices.
Why raise money while profitable?
Profitability does not eliminate the need for growth capital. Linear said the financing would support expansion of its product portfolio, AI-enabled workflows, and larger-enterprise adoption. The round could also provide additional hiring and operational capacity while allowing some existing shareholders and employees to obtain liquidity through its secondary component.
Moving upmarket can require investment in areas that are less visible in a product demo:

- Identity, access, and administrative controls
- Data migration and onboarding support
- Enterprise integrations and account management
- Customer support for larger deployments
- Reliability and infrastructure for growing usage
The financing therefore signals ambition rather than financial distress. A profitable private company can still raise capital when management believes faster product development or enterprise expansion will create more long-term value than retaining a smaller, more conservative operating model.

What the funding means for Linear’s customers
Linear’s stated priorities suggest that customers could see continued investment in product breadth, AI-assisted triage and feedback analysis, administration, integrations, and workflows that connect human teams with AI agents. Larger customers are likely to care particularly about security reviews, onboarding, support, permissions, identity management, and predictable administration.
Those are investment areas, not guaranteed roadmap outcomes. Funding does not by itself prove that Linear will deliver a specific feature, replace a customer’s existing tools, or win against Jira in every segment.

At the time of the Series C announcement, Linear and its investors described the company as having more than 15,000 companies using its product and approximately 80 employees. The company was remote-first or distributed, with its base in San Francisco.
Linear’s current About page reports more than 37,000 companies. The two figures come from different dates and are company-reported; they should not be used as a directly audited growth rate. “Companies,” “customers,” and “users” are also different measurements.

Pricing and the cost of switching
Linear’s current official pricing page lists a free tier at $0, with unlimited members, two teams, and 250 issues. It also shows Basic at $10 per user per month and Business at $16 per user per month when billed yearly, with Enterprise pricing customized annually. Features such as private teams and guests, Triage Intelligence, Linear Insights, Linear Asks, additional integrations, SAML, SCIM, advanced administration, migration support, and account management vary by plan. Check the current pricing page before making a buying decision.
Atlassian’s official Jira pricing page shows a free plan for up to 10 users and a displayed Standard price signal of $7.91 per user per month on the retrieved page. Actual pricing can vary by billing cycle, user count, geography, and product configuration. Jira Enterprise is sold through a contact-sales model. Its broader feature set can make it a better value for organizations already invested in Atlassian, even if its headline per-user price appears lower.
Software price is only one part of the decision. A migration may involve workflow redesign, historical issue retention, Git and Slack integrations, support-system connections, identity integration, security review, user training, and procurement. Teams considering a move should run a pilot with representative projects before treating a subscription comparison as a replacement decision.
Is Linear a serious threat to Atlassian?
It is reasonable to view Linear as a serious focused competitor in product and engineering work management. The $1.25 billion financing valuation indicates strong investor confidence in the company’s growth, profitability claims, product appeal, and AI strategy.
It is not evidence that Linear has displaced Jira or matched Atlassian’s scale. Jira benefits from a large installed base, extensive configuration options, integrations, enterprise controls, and the wider Atlassian ecosystem. Linear’s opportunity is narrower but potentially valuable: make software-development coordination faster and more coherent for teams that do not want to manage a highly customized system.
Other tools may also fit particular use cases. GitHub Projects is a natural option for teams whose work is tightly tied to GitHub repositories. Shortcut, YouTrack, Plane, and Asana offer different balances of product planning, configurability, deployment control, and cross-functional work. Their current prices are not compared here.
