Google’s limited-time offer to let some existing Pixel owners enroll in Pixel Care+ ended on August 2, 2026. It was not the launch of a new warranty: Google introduced Pixel Care+ in 2025, and the 2026 development was a temporary U.S. enrollment window for eligible Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 phones that had passed the usual 60-day sign-up period. If you missed the deadline, check whether your phone is still within the normal enrollment window and whether it already has coverage.
What Google added—and what it didn’t
Google opened a short enrollment period for some existing Pixel owners; it did not quietly launch a new warranty product. Google’s support page lists the window as July 13 through August 2, 2026. Its announcement post was published July 14 and described the offer as running “between now and August 2,” so Google’s own materials differ by a day on the start date. Pixel Care+ is Google’s newer U.S. device-protection program, introduced in 2025 to replace Preferred Care as the main Google Store protection offering and to replace or migrate coverage for many Google Fi customers. Preferred Care remains relevant to some existing subscribers and devices; don’t assume an older plan has automatically acquired every Pixel Care+ benefit. Who qualified for the temporary offer?
The U.S. open-enrollment list included Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10a. Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 10 Pro Fold were excluded from this special offer. The device also had to be associated with the person purchasing the plan, be in good working condition, and not have been enrolled previously in Pixel Care+, Preferred Care, or Google Fi Device Protection. Google specified that phones could not have cracks, mechanical defects, or liquid damage; inaccurate condition declarations could lead to a denied claim or canceled plan.
These were conditions for the expired open-enrollment event, not a promise that every listed phone can enroll today. Google’s standard rule is generally to add Pixel Care+ within 60 days of buying an eligible new device through the Google Store or My Pixel app. Device and channel eligibility can vary, so verify the specific phone and account rather than relying on the model name alone.

What Pixel Care+ covers
For eligible U.S. plans, Google lists unlimited accidental-damage claims, eligible $0 front-screen and back-glass repairs, and a $0 battery replacement when capacity falls below 80% of its original charge. The plan also includes eligible post-warranty mechanical or electrical malfunction claims and priority support from Pixel experts. A replacement, when approved, may typically ship the next business day, subject to availability. These benefits have terms and model-specific limits; “$0 repair” does not mean every repair is free.

Other accidental-damage repairs can carry a service fee, and replacement claims may have deductibles. Foldables have different repair terms: do not assume the inner folding screen gets the same $0 treatment as an ordinary Pixel screen. Google lists additional limitations for foldables, tablets, watches, and Fitbit products. Check the coverage table for the exact model and damage type before deciding what a likely repair would cost.

Loss and theft are optional
Loss and theft are covered only if the customer bought the version of Pixel Care+ that includes that protection. In the U.S., Google allows up to two loss-or-theft claims in a rolling 12-month period. Find Hub must have been enabled when the device went missing and remain enabled during the claim; a police report is required. Loss-and-theft coverage is unavailable in New York. Reaching the loss-and-theft claim limit does not by itself end other eligible benefits. (Google’s coverage terms.)

The following are examples of U.S. Google Store prices shown in Google’s current coverage information. Prices are before applicable tax and may differ by purchase channel, device, country, or plan. The repair fee is for other accidental damage, not the eligible $0 screen, back-glass, or battery work described above. Loss/theft deductibles apply only to that optional coverage.

Loss-and-theft versions cost more. Examples include $7 per month or $139 for two years for a Pixel 10a; $10 or $199 for a Pixel 10; $15 or $279 for a Pixel 10 Pro; $9 or $179 for a Pixel 9; and $14 or $239 for a Pixel 9 Pro or Pro XL. These are examples, not a universal price quote. Google Store offers monthly and two-year choices; Google Fi offers monthly coverage. Monthly billing can run for up to 60 months or until canceled, while a two-year plan is paid upfront for 24 months. Google says plan types cannot be switched or upgraded after purchase.
How to decide whether the plan is worth the cost
Compare the premiums over the time you expect to keep the phone, plus any likely service fee or deductible, with the out-of-pocket cost of the repair or replacement you are actually worried about. For example, a Pixel 10 owner considering the $9 monthly base plan would pay $216 over 24 months before tax if coverage stayed active that long; the two-year option listed at $179 costs less over that period. But a covered repair could still have a fee depending on the damage, while an eligible screen repair may cost $0 under the plan. Price the relevant repair, not an imagined “any damage is free” benefit.

Coverage may be more appealing if you keep an expensive phone for several years, have a history of drops, or value official support and a defined claims process. Loss-and-theft protection may matter if that risk is meaningful and you accept its deductible, claim limit, and requirements. It may be poor value if you upgrade frequently, rarely damage phones, can comfortably pay for a repair yourself, or are buying it mainly for defects already addressed by the standard warranty. Foldable owners should read the inner-screen terms especially carefully.
How to check existing coverage and what to do now
The special open-enrollment window is closed. If you recently bought an eligible new Pixel and may still be inside the ordinary 60-day period, check Google’s current eligibility options rather than assuming the expired offer applies. First confirm whether coverage is already attached: open Google’s warranty eligibility tool, sign in with the account associated with the phone, select the device, and review its standard warranty and any Pixel Care+ or Preferred Care status. The precise menu location in an app can change by device and app version.
If the phone is out of the ordinary enrollment period and has no plan, compare the official out-of-pocket repair route with the cost of any coverage actually available to you. Google’s Pixel repair center is a starting point for repairs; it is not insurance and does not cover loss or theft. Don’t treat the presence of a model on a general plan page as proof that a late enrollment is available.

How claims work—and deadlines to remember
- Start through the Pixel Care+ management and claims page, using its self-service portal or customer support.
- File within 90 days of the incident. For a repair, check whether walk-in service is offered for that model and problem; availability depends on location, parts, and issue. Google recommends confirming parts with the repair center before visiting.
- For a replacement, the destination must be in the same country or region where the plan was purchased. Google says replacements may be new or refurbished, and may be the same or a similar model of like kind and quality.
- Return the damaged or malfunctioning phone within 14 days after receiving an approved replacement to avoid a non-return fee.
For a loss-or-theft claim, make sure the required Find Hub settings were in place and obtain the police report. A plan’s coverage is generally tied to the particular device and is not transferable to another device, account, or owner. Pre-existing damage is excluded, repair options depend on model and location, and service is generally tied to the country or region where the plan was purchased.
Canceling a plan
Monthly plans can be canceled through the plan management page; Google says two-year plan customers must contact support. Cancellation within 30 days generally results in a full refund minus claims or repairs; after that, a prorated refund may apply under the plan terms. Check the current terms for your specific plan before canceling, particularly if you have already made a claim. (Google plan terms.)
