How to Determine the Market Price of a Share of Common Stock

by Alia Nikolakopulos

The market price of common stock is the price the public is willing to pay for a share of the company’s stock. Market prices change several times throughout the day as a company’s stock is sold and purchased. Due to these fluctuations, the most accurate way to determine current market prices is to obtain the data at the time you consider purchasing or selling the stock. There are several reliable sources you can use to quickly get this information.

Navigate to the corporate website of the company you wish to research. Locate the investor relations page to view current market prices for common stock.

Contact your broker. If you have a brokerage account, you can obtain common stock market prices for any company through the broker’s website or by contacting your brokerage account manager.

Visit a financial securities website. Enter the ticker symbol of a specific company, or view real-time common stock market prices for all publicly traded companies.
